Review: New Coconut Oreo Thins

Today’s junk food: New Coconut Oreo Thins!!

The last time Oreo had coconut, it was these Toasted Coconut Golden Oreos – not quite the same. Then there were these Coconut Delight Oreo Fudge Cremes, five years ago…Those were just ok. Still, I’m a coconut fan, so I’m ready for the plunge.

DO THESE TASTE GOOD? YES.

WHY OR WHY NOT? When I opened the package up and sniffed, I got a definite Coconut smell – interestingly, more coconut than Oreo aroma. I tasted the creme by itself – perfection! If you’re a coconut fan, this basically tastes like Oreo creme that was made with coconut oil. The flavor was present and matched perfectly with the sweetness of the creme.

Eaten altogether, these were a great match – the bitterness of the cookie, the sweetness of the coconut creme. Again, starting from the premise of liking coconut, these were an amazing cookie through and through – light, thin, flavorful. Good job, Oreo. These should’ve existed much sooner.

ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW? Might be my new favorite coconut cookie over a Samoa. Just really perfect execution.

PURCHASED AT: Wegmans, Germantown, MD

WHERE FOUND IN STORE? Cardboard display in the cookie aisle

COST? $2.99

Sincerely,

The JFG

Man, I’m going to have to try these. I haven’t been tempted so far by any of the Oreo Thins flavors, but your review of the coconut definitely intrigues me.

These taste like the “famous chocolate wafers” by nabisco. Which is a good thing.

And yet there is not a trace of real coconut in them, according to the ingredients. Not even a dab of coconut oil. It apparently is all in the artificial flavor.

But they are probably using synthetic flavors very chemically similar or even identical to chemical compounds in real coconut. This is often the case with artificial flavors. It’s the artificial colors that tend to be entirely foreign to anything we evolved on, so I only worry about those.

I bought these per your advice and am so glad I did. Oreo flavors can be hit or miss so I was checking online and found your review. Your description was very apt and appealing. They are a delightful combination of bitter and sweet. The coconut flavor was so delicious I don’t actually care whether it is real or artificial. One does not eat an Oreo for the nutritional value. Thank you for writing this very helpful review.
