Review: Limited Batch Lemon Cream Pie Fudge Stripes, Lemmy Num-Num Fudge Stripes, & Worst BBQ Side?

JFG Nation, let’s talk BBQ sides. Over the weekend many of us went to BBQs and ate lots of grilled meat and, I’m sure, SIDES. Pasta salad. Beans. Green leafy things. All good all good.

But here’s my question to you: WHAT IS THE WORST SIDE?

This is clearly a very personal question but the gist is simple: what is the side that you will always avoid at an outdoor potluck style BBQ? Here’s my list, in no particular order:

ANYTHING WITH BEETS: here’s the thing – I enjoy beets even though people say they taste like soil. But there’s something about that beet juice staining everything it touches that is really off putting for me. Beets and feta that results in pink water GAAAAH. Keep your bloody beets.

ANYTHING WITH MAYO: I love mayo. But I always give the hairy eyeball to whoever brings mayo-based things to a BBQ. How well do I know you? Do I trust that you handle mayo properly? Did this sit your car for the entire ride here? How far do you live? Did you mix sour cream into this? Oh HELL no.

ANYTHING WITH DILL: Love dill pickles. But open a salad up and it’s covered in green eyelashes?? I’M OUT ON THAT.

What say you, JFG Nation? What is the worst BBQ side? Comment below.

Today’s junk food: Limited Batch Lemon Cream Pie Fudge Stripes & Lemmy Num-Num Fudge Stripes!!

FINALLY FOUND THESE SUCKERS. Both the original limited edition version and the Minions version.

DO THESE TASTE GOOD? Yes, they’re ok.

WHY OR WHY NOT? These are good but not great. First right off the bat there is really no difference between the two besides the icing distribution.

They smell wonderful – like a lemon pound cake. Bright, and full of baked good aroma. The texture is standard Fudge Stripe – crispy thin cookie with a waxy icing.

The flavor was a tiny bit disappointing. Not sure what I was expecting – these have the same type of flavor a lemon pound cake would have: light lemon flavor, no sour, no zing, no tart. Just a basic lemon flavor that was a bit muted due to the sugar cookie. The icing was good and helped push the lemon flavor back to the forefront; these basically taste like Lemon Archway cookies.

So yeah – if you know what these taste like then you know what these Fudge Stripes taste like in crispier form. Taste good, nothing Earth shattering.

ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW? These are exactly the same cookies! No need to buy both.

PURCHASED AT: Walmart, Frederick, MD.

WHERE FOUND IN STORE? Cardboard kiosk along the grocery aisles.

COST? $2.00 each on sale.

Sincerely,

The JFG

Dill is the worst, hands down. I also share your skepticism about mayo-based sides. We should have a joint BBQ free of such weak links.

Cultivate some vegan friends… They’ll use mayo that doesn’t have egg or dairy. I’m allergic to both and keep a good stock of Vegenaise on hand. Follow Your Heart makes it. I figure it’s less likely to kill me as well as being non-allergenic and it really tastes good. Not diet stuff. Of course, you don’t need to be vegan to buy it. Hellman’s now has an egg-free spread which is decent but Vegenaise is definitely better.

Of course, then you’ll have to have a vegan BBQ option… Not
as hard as it sounds today, just keep the vegan stuff separate from the dead animal crud on the grill. Aluminum foil should work.

I hate pasta salad. I’m sorry it too much weirdness. As for the lemon cookies; for the minions tie-in they could had done a banana crème flavor.

  3. Kaitlyn says:

definitely agree with you – these taste exactly like archway lemon cookies only in shortbread form. i love them.

  4. Matt says:

I thought you asked this question already once. And the answer was potato salad

  5. Jessica says:

I avoid mayo in general. I just don’t like it. Coleslaw is the worst. I don’t particularly care for cabbage either so it’s a double whammy.

Then again, I’m the weirdo at the BBQ who has a grilled chicken breast (just the meat, not a sandwich), loads of 3 bean salad and crudites. Maybe some potato chips if I’m hungry enough.

I like mayo, but if I see a side that contains it at a BBQ cookout, I’ll avoid it. I’ve gone through enough hell without my epitaph reading “and then he got food poisoning”…

Speaking of beets – try Terra Chips Pickled Beets chips. Made from red and golden beets so there are two different colored chips in the bag. Really really really good. Yes, they have some dill but I can’t see anything green on them… Terra also has Sweets and Beets chips which combine beet chips with sweet potato chips. They’re okay but the Pickled Beets chips are actually addictive.

Have you tried the lemon oreos? If so, which tastes better, oreo or fudge stripe? I tried the oreos and was meh on it but I’ve been thinking of trying the stripe cookies. I didn’t know there were 2!
