Review (x2): New Ginger & Lemongrass Triscuit, Fig & Honey Triscuit, Nosh Show Ep. 100!, & BRACKET BUSTED

JFG Nation, Happy Monday! Checking in on the JFG March Madness pool, the bracket “Kettle Chip Junkie” is in the lead! Anyone who had Duke or Villanova winning it all can join me in the bar for a drink. Coming into this March, the pundits were saying how great the ACC was and how meh the Big 10 was. Now the Big 10 has wiped much of the ACC off the board. Sigh.

Take your mind off your bracket busts and check out EPISODE 100 OF THE NOSH SHOW!!

For you new arrivals, The Nosh Show is a podcast started by Marvo from The Impulsive Buy, featuring Ryan from GrubGrade, Dubba from On Second Scoop, and, of course, me, your friendly neighborhood JFG. And today marks the release of The Nosh Show, Episode 100: Hostess with the Mostess.

Today’s junk food: New Ginger & Lemongrass Triscuit, Fig & Honey Triscuit!!

New Triscuits! I feel like Triscuits always release flavors in pairs: one flavor I love and one flavor I just am kind of meh. I loved the Gouda flavor but was meh on the olive one. Which one will thrill and which will disappoint here?

I like lemongrass flavor – citrus-y and sour, it’s part of many of my favorite Thai dishes.

DO THESE TASTE GOOD? Yes…sort of.

WHY OR WHY NOT? Because I could barely taste the ginger or the lemongrass! When I opened the box I could smell some ginger and lemongrass notes. Biting into an cracker there was a small small burst of ginger flavor…but it quickly disappeared. The lemongrass flavor was subtle and tasty – tiny notes of citrus. But they didn’t last and weren’t bold.

Overall these crackers tasted GOOD mainly because they weren’t bold enough to offend. I’d call these “hint of ginger and lemongrass.” People will like these but I wish they were bolder.

Fig! I love figs. My friend Adam introduced me to figs in college and I have been HOOKED. When I was in Spain, the figs were AMAZING – fresh and oozing honey-like sugary sweet syrup.

DO THESE TASTE GOOD? YES.

WHY OR WHY NOT? The opened box smelled of honey immediately. I chomped a couple crackers and fell in love – this first taste I got was of honey. Not overwhelming and not subtle – just sweet and present. The flavor of fig came next – subtle but noticeable  ACTUALLY, on second tasting, the fig flavorful was VERY noticeable. The fruity and slightly deep flavor of fig came through more in the aftertaste AS SOON AS I started chewing and also as I smacked my tongue. Deep fig flavor! Yummy. But the cracker really hit its high notes because of the salt on the surface – this was a salty sweet combo that I have never experienced before. Honey, fig, salt on a cracker??? Genius! All this needed was a small spread of Brie and it would be PERFECT with no other additions.

REALLY good, Triscuit. Thumbs up; buy these all day.

ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW? Like I said – they always come in twos – one awesome, one meh.

PURCHASED AT: Giant Food, Van Ness, DC

WHERE FOUND IN STORE? Randomly, they tucked them in an end cap display by the garage entrance door, facing AWAY from customers! I only found them because I was entering from the garage and walking slow. YOU WOULD NEVER SEE THEM OTHERWISE. C’mon, Giant.

COST? $3.29 retail, $2 on sale.

Sincerely,

The JFG

I bet big into the ACC in my bracket, and still can’t believe how 7/8 (and almost ALL) of them folded like a cheap suit. AND I had Villanova going to the final game. March Madness is here!

Triscuits are a snack cracker I could never wrap my brain around. Too much like eating salty Shredded Wheat cereal. If they should make XXXTreme Doritos Triscuits I’d give them a shot again. 🙂

The fig & honey Triscuits are fabulous! Someone left some in our breakroom, so I tried them for the first time about an hour ago. I was mesmerized by the sweet/salty taste. Neither flavor overpowers the other one, so they work well in harmony. I will definitely be on the lookout for them in my local stores.

I really do not like the fig/honey flavor.
neither figgy or honey. Tasted more like rosemary. Will not buy again. Yuck!
