MICRO-REVIEW: Talenti Coconut Almond Chocolate Gelato & What’s the Best Thing to Get at Waffle House?

JFG Nation, I am in South Carolina for the next few days, and I swear that from the airport to my hotel I passed THREE different Waffle House establishments ….all on the same street! I feel that, inevitably, I will end up there. All I know about Waffle House is:

  1. They basically have a menu full of pictures so you can just point to what you want to eat.
  2. I ate there once in college but apparently blocked it from my mind.

Waffle House is a Southern staple, and everyone has their favorite dish/egg combo/way they like their toast. Do I get raisin toast? Do I get grits? Come on, JFG Nation – I know you have your go-to combos. Let me know in the comments below.

Today’s junk food: Talenti Coconut Almond Chocolate Gelato!!

It’s no secret that I love Talenti. I previously reviewed Talenti’s Caribbean Coconut Gelato before – LOVED IT. So when I saw this Talenti Coconut Almond Chocolate Gelato, I jumped at it. Basically, if this was the same coconut gelato plus a Stracciatella chocolate-shaving addition, this was gonna be a winner in my book (and it was).

The gelato was light and sweet and milky, full of coconut flavor. It had a slight vanilla flavor and had lots of texture – tiny chewy bits of coconut throughout the smooth gelato. Like frozen Mounds filling. Add on top of that ever-so-soft tiny shavings of very flavorful dark chocolate, bursting on my tongue and cutting through the milkiness perfectly. The dark chocolate contrasted nicely with the coconut, making this ice cream TRULY reminiscent of a frozen Almond Joy mix. This, of course, was aided by the presence of crunchy almond halves throughout the gelato. I might’ve wanted a few MORE almonds, but I can’t fault the ratio that existed because I loved the chocolate / coconut combo so much by itself.

All in all, another solid Talenti flavor. The things you’re doing with coconut, Talenti ….. I like it.

That…sounds really good. I think that’s the first time I’ve been tempted by a non-Braum’s frozen dessert.

Hash browns scattered and smothered, wheat toast, a big glass of milk, and chocolate pie for dessert. Their pecan waffles are also really, really good.

I get a sausage and cheese omelet with grits; whole wheat toast & mixed fruit jelly. My sweetie pie always gets a waffle with a side of white toast. My daughter gets a bowl of chili and a burger. To each his own.

Also, the more prison tats your cook has, the better your food will be.

  3. Anne Sutton says:

Waffle with just butter and syrup and hash browns with cheddar

Soft Scrambled Eggs with cheese, Side of Bacon, Hash browns, with onions and jalapenos. And Raisin Toast with Apple butter………

  5. ruckus says:

2 eggs scrambled, 2 sausage patty’s, toast, double hash browns, and coffee ftw

I agree with you fully, Talenti’s coconut flavors are awesome. Both are two of their best offerings, and from the ones I’ve tried, only Southern Butter Pecan, Caramel Apple Pie and Key Lime Pie are on the same level.
