JFG Nation, there’s waaaay too much new ice cream to review. That’s why I have, in recent years, left it to the experts like On Second Scoop and the like. Still, every once in a while there is a Ben & Jerry’s flavor that catches my eye, like this Limited Edition Ben & Jerry’s Cake My Day Ice Cream.

If there’s one thing I love, it’s cake plus ice cream. I’ve loved that combo since I was a little kid. So when this Limited Edition Ben & Jerry’s Cake My Day Ice Cream promises a cake flavored ice cream with cake pieces, buttercream frosting AND raspberry? I’m all in.

When I opened this carton of Limited Edition Ben & Jerry’s Cake My Day Ice Cream and sniffed…it smelled like cake. Like, it REALLY smelled like cake. Like cake frosting and white cake, the aroma I got was straight up sugariness.

Digging in to the tub, I took a big spoonful into my mouth and moaned with pleasure. This ice cream tasted EXACTLY as it promised, and I loved it for delivering. The ice cream TASTED like cake, like that great grocery store sheet cake that is light and white/yellow and spongy and sugary and generally cake-y. The flavor of the ice cream was cake-exact, with a bit of vanilla ice cream creaminess behind it. It was almost as if I had a piece of sheet cake that was already wrapped up with some vanilla ice cream, and took a bite of that into my mouth. Perfectly on point.

This Limited Edition Ben & Jerry’s Cake My Day Ice Cream was highlighted by the cake pieces and the buttercream frosting, which only served to accentuate the fact that this tasted like I WAS eating cake and vanilla ice cream. The cake bits helped break up the ice cream texture, while the smooth almost waxy feel of the buttercream frosting reminded me perfectly of how actual cake and ice cream and frosting interact in my mouth.

Thrown in the raspberry and the picture is complete – the raspberry bit of fruit flavor reminded me of so many birthday cakes or wedding cakes I’d eaten in my lifetime that always had that ribbon of fruit down the center of the cake slice.

Altogether, this ice cream flavor was pretty perfect in what it described itself as and what it delivered. Really sweet, really creamy, and 100% reminded me of eating cake and ice cream. Brilliant flavor.

I won’t eat Ben & Jerry’s ice cream anymore, they already had questionable interests and when they came out with the socialist ice cream I was done.
