MICRO-REVIEW: Limited Edition Pepperidge Farm Pecan Pie Soft Dessert Cookies

JFG Nation! Yes, I know I’ve dropped off the face of the Earth. I promise, however, that I (1) am still alive, (2) still have a working computer, and (3) still have a thirst for food, particularly junk food. That’s why I’m here with a random Sunday micro-review. SUNDAY??? WHAAAAAAAAA. Let’s get to it.

Today’s junk food: Limited Edition Pepperidge Farm Pecan Pie Soft Dessert Cookies!

So I started seeing these everywhere this weekend, both in person AND on Twitter. I guess this is Pepperidge Farm’s newest edition to the Dessert Shop line of soft cookies they have – cookies made to taste like popular desserts. *SPOILER ALERT* Unfortunately, I think they missed the mark on these.

The PF Dessert Shop cookies have been hit or miss. Key Lime Pie? Awesome.  Blueberry Cobbler? They were fine, I guess. Strawberry Cheesecake? NO.

So what was the problem with these? Where do I start? I’ll start with the fact that they weren’t BAD, but they didn’t hit me over the head with the PECAN PIE flavor. I sniffed the open package, and while it smelled sort of nutty, it was mostly the typical Pepperidge Farm sweet cookie dough aroma I got.

I mean, what do we all love about pecan pie? Sure, it’s the nutty pecan flavor but it’s also that gooey brown sugar corn syrup candy like syrup flavor. THAT’S pecan pie. This? This was not.

The pecans were too far and few in between.  Sure I got a bit of nuttiness, but I feel like I’ve had more pecans in random brownies than a cookie that is CALLED “Pecan Pie Soft Dessert Cookies.” Plus, the molasses brown sugar flavor? Only SORT of there – I did get a bit of brown sugar flavor but it was quickly drowned out by the overwhelming general sugar cookie dough flavor.

And that’s basically it – I bit into this soft cookie and chewed and got a bit of brown sugar and a bit of pecan and then found myself chewing a whole lotta NON-pecan pie cookie. Hmph. Not a bad tasting cookie, but certainly NOT the best execution of a pecan pie flavor. I won’t be buying these again. Sorry, PF.

A better idea would be actually amp up the pecans. Adding gooey caramel center filling.
