Review: Boardwalk Kettle Corn Pop Chips & Where The Heck Have I Been / Looking Back on the MLB Season

<JFG walks to the podium>

<taps microphone>

Uh, hello everyone. Yes, yes, I know that I haven’t been around for…a while. I want to start by saying that, no, I have not been in rehab; no, I haven’t been fired by my sponsors; no, I haven’t grown sick of junk food; yes, I do still love all the new flavors of Oreos; no, I am not a paid spokesman for DraftKings or FanDuel; yes, I do wish they would knock it off with the 24/7 advertisements; no, I haven’t retired from blogging; and yes, I am still the JFG for the foreseeable future.

I know that many of you have questions, and that while you have been following me on Instagram, you’ve been wondering why there have been not real blog posts for weeks now. And I hope that I can provide some answers today. I will not be answering any questions about deflated footballs; those questions should be directed to my lawyer. Ok, so let’s open it up for questions.

Where have you been???

That’s a very good question. I’m still here in DC; I haven’t gone anywhere. As I mentioned before, I began to transition this site to its next butterfly-emerging-from-a-cocoon-phase, and then right when that happen, three-to-ten other major life events happened at the same time. So, while it started out as a blog refresh, life compounded things. Next?”

Hey, you weren’t on the most recent Nosh Show either.

Thanks for noticing. Yes, Maria from Sometimes Foodie filled in admirably. She has a much easier-to-listen-to-voice than I do. Although I’m kind of glad I missed the poop discussion.

You’ve missed so many new products! Are you even eating junk food anymore?

Oh, I have. More bags of Hawaiian Punch Cotton Candy than I care to admit. Blech. But it’s been kind of nice being behind the scenes during this pumpkin season. More low key than years past

But dude, WHERE THE HECK HAVE YOU BEEN???

Trust me, if I didn’t have things that needed addressing in my life, I’d be here.

But…but…

Look, are there any other questions?

How did your MLB predictions go this year?

UGH, HORRIBLY. Let’s look back on when I made my picks at the beginning of the year. I had the Orioles, Tigers, and Mariners as AL Division Winners. 0-fer there! In the wildcard spots, I had the Jays and the Indians. I was 1-for-5 in the American League. OOF.

In the NL, I tabbed the Nats, Cards, and Dodgers to win their divisions…2/3 ain’t bad. In the wildcard spots, I got the Pirates right and the Padres wrong. So 3-for-5 overall.

Of course, everything went off the rails after that, as I said my WS matchup was going to be Washington vs. Seattle. How could I be decent at picking football and HORRIBLE at picking baseball, the sport I grew up on????? I picked both the Cubs and the Rangers to finish last in their divisions. AWESOME.

Anyways, I was wrong, but that’s ok – it’s not like all of my fantasy baseball teams were poo-poo this year. It’s not like my fantasy football team is 0-4. It’s not like the economy sucks and MY 401K IS DOWN.

<pauses>

GAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH <flips over podium, storms off, exit stage left>

Today’s junk food: Boardwalk Kettle Corn Pop Chips!!

Boardwalk Kettle Corn Pop Chips

Boardwalk Kettle Corn Pop Chips

Well well well, JFG Nation. I know you have a lot of unanswered questions, but let’s talk about Boardwalk Kettle Corn Pop Chips, shall we? I’ve reviewed a TON of Pop Chips on my blog before, and I have to say, I love them. I mean, each bag could stand to have a few more chips in them – am I the only one who feels like I could eat ten bags of Pop Chips and STILL be hungry?

Anyways, this is the first time I’m trying their new Kettle Corn variety, and I LOVE KETTLE CORN. It’s a staple around where I live, and it’s basically: “a sweet-and-salty variety of popcorn that is typically mixed or seasoned with a light-colored refined sugar, salt, and oil.” That’s all it is. Buttery sweet salty popcorn. GIDDYUP.

Pop Chips sent me these Boardwalk Kettle Corn Pop Chips, and I’m so glad they did. According to their PR peeps, The Boardwalk Kettle Corn line is sweet, salty goodness. A delightful mix of sugar and salt with a hint of buttery flavor. Its everything we love about popcorn, only better, because its a chip.” Makes sense to me now get in my mouth.

Boardwalk Kettle Corn Pop Chips are organic! Cool.

BTW, some of you may remember that Pop Chips partnered with Katy Perry at one time to make Katy’s Kettle Corn Pop Chips. Now, these are different than those. How? Uh….these are round, and those were triangular. TOTALLY DIFFERENT.

Boardwalk Kettle Corn Pop Chips, to their credit, only have FIVE ingredients, and that’s what I like to see. This has less ingredients than even the Katy counterpart.

I opened this bag of Boardwalk Kettle Corn Pop Chips and the aroma was of sweet sweet butter. Wow. These smelled ridiculously good. Just a nice, creamy sweet buttery aroma. I needed to eat these now.

Popping a few into my mouth, the texture was just awesome. Like other popcorn-based Pop Chips or even like their competitor Popcorn Indiana, these popcorn Pop Chips were super light, super crispy, super crunchy. Crunching into them, I got the definite popcorn / corn flavor they sought to impart. It was almost as if each big burst with a popcorn-y air that filled my mouth with the distinct popped flavor. Awesome stuff.

But how was the salty sweet combo of these Boardwalk Kettle Corn Pop Chips? Just outstanding. Whereas with regular kettle corn, the popcorn is usually unevenly covered in caro syrup and shakes of salt; eat Pop Chip was finely coated with what sort of looked like confectioner’s sugar. That meant every crevice of these chips was slightly sweet, and the sugary flavor quickly gave way to the salty popcorn-y underbelly flavor. The result was a PERFECT blend of salty and sweet.

Weird sidenote: Even though they didn’t taste of it, the bag smelled slightly coconut-y. Anyone else getting that?

But, final result: These Boardwalk Kettle Corn Pop Chips are stupendous. If you’re a fan of salty/sweet, go buy these. And eat. And eat. And eat.

PURCHASED AT: sent to me

COST: I can usually find Pop Chips for $2.50-$3.00

    Welcome back! 🙂
    Whenever I see the Draft Kings ads, I think of sports gambling at the casinos in Las Vegas.
