QUESTION OF THE DAY: What is Your Summer Drink of Choice?

Junk Food Nation, it’s summer and it’s getting hot.  While I like a lot of beer, and prefer dark porters, it is NOT what I choose to drink when it’s 94 and sweltering out.  I tend to go for whatever light beer, in an aluminum bottle, I can find that is ICE COLD.

But I know some out there prefer slushy margaritas, iced down martinis, maybe Blue Moon with orange slice, etc.  So today I’m just curious – what’s YOUR summer drink of choice?  Let me know in the comments below.

TODAY’S JUNK FOOD: New Ruffles Deep Ridged Buffalo Wild Wings Classic Hot Wings Potato Chips!

New Ruffles Deep Ridged Buffalo Wild Wings Classic Hot Wings Potato Chips

New Ruffles Deep Ridged Buffalo Wild Wings Classic Hot Wings Potato Chips: The Money Shot

You know, when I saw these New Ruffles Deep Ridged Buffalo Wild Wings Classic Hot Wings Potato Chips in the store, I wanted to avoid.  Avoid avoid avoid for a lot of reason, but mainly because it seemed like another re-packing of the same exact chips they had before!  These chips. I mean, Aren’t those the same thing?  So you put them on them on a thicker wavy chip….OOOOOOOOOOO SO DIFFERENT.  Pffft.

New Ruffles Deep Ridged Buffalo Wild Wings Classic Hot Wings Potato Chips: SPONSORED…sort of

New Ruffles Deep Ridged Buffalo Wild Wings Classic Hot Wings Potato Chips are “inspired by” Buffalo Wild Wings…but the logo is right on the bag.  I’m pretty sure they are partnering together, no? What is this “inspired by” BS? I’ve eaten at BW3s a lot, and I like them, but their wings aren’t that different tasting than anywhere else.

That picture IS great though, isn’t it?  I want a GIGANTIC potato chip to serve a wing on.

New Ruffles Deep Ridged Buffalo Wild Wings Classic Hot Wings Potato Chips: I LIKE IT

The ingredients for these New Ruffles Deep Ridged Buffalo Wild Wings Classic Hot Wings Potato Chips DID make me smile though – once I saw the presence of chicken fat, chicken broth, and chicken powder, I thought “Ok…they’re gonna make an effort here.  Good.”  Maybe these, because of the attempts at mimicking the chicken flavor/feel, will actually be successful like the Lay’s Buffalo Wing with Ranch STAX or Walkers’ chicken flavored chips generally.

New Ruffles Deep Ridged Buffalo Wild Wings Classic Hot Wings Potato Chips: DEEP RIDGED

Opening these New Ruffles Deep Ridged Buffalo Wild Wings Classic Hot Wings Potato Chips, these are reminiscent of the Ruffles Ultimate line.  When I placed my nose up to the bag and smelled, I could smell the faint aroma of hot wing sauce.

New Ruffles Deep Ridged Buffalo Wild Wings Classic Hot Wings Potato Chips: Embedded with flavor

I munched on some of these New Ruffles Deep Ridged Buffalo Wild Wings Classic Hot Wings Potato Chips, and I must admit, I liked them. They are among some of the better hot wing chips I’ve had, and I liked these better than the previous Molten Hot Wing chips.

The flavor I immediately tasted was, of course, of hot wing sauce.  It was tangy, spicy and had a decent cayenne and vinegar flavor. Key point: it was also NOT SALTY, which I appreciated.  Sometimes hot wing chips are sunk because the addition of waaaay too much salt kills the experience.  Not here.

Add on top of that flavor a good representation of chicken taste.  When I smacked my tongue and lips are chewing and swallowing, I definitely got the reminiscent flavor of chicken.  Not a chicken bouillon flavor either… and actually chicken fat taste. It fit with the hot wing sauce flavor really well and, due to the crispness of the chip, sort of gave the eating experience of eating the crispy skin of the outside of a chicken wing.

Maybe I’m giving this chip too much credit.  But all in all, these were actually pretty good.  Better than I expected. I will be buying these again.

PURCHASED AT: CVS

Summer beer all the way – beer, lemonade and vodka. Served over ice.

  2. MP says:

Water. Ice cold water. Especially from the hose. But a real drink, it’s Gatorade.

  3. Lindemann says:

Big Sam Adams Summer Ale fan here. A refreshing quaff with delightful mild citrus flavor. Also, it’s widely available.

  4. Brit says:

Classic Mojito all the way for me!

  5. steve says:

@Brit I just got back from a trip to Cuba and we had mojitos at least three times a day. Also a good choice.

  6. Neil says:

Classic gin & tonic. That’s it, that’s the list.
The better the gin, the better the drink. Hit up The Gin Joint for an education.

  7. Elisa says:

Bloody Mary is a long fave of mine. I’m open to drinking beer, ale, and hard cider. Cold water is a good choice on a hot day!

I’ve seen the smaller size bags of the above featured chips. I know there are other new Deep Ridge flavors I’d like to try in the smaller size…if I can find them!

  8. Michelle says:

Unsweetened iced tea. Or lemonade. Or iced tea & lemonade, preferably Honest Tea’s version. Not the Arizona Tea version, though. It has pear juice in it, which makes it taste weird.

  9. John says:

    What’s are “hot sing chips”?

  10. Hunter-m3 says:

Moscow Mules are always a favorite.

Sweet tea! 1 gallon with a cup and a half of sugar. The most refreshing beverage of all time! Btw. I am from the south.

  12. Kristen says:

I finished a bag of these chips last night. I have to go to the store tonight for more before doing my homework. Writing papers for school plus these chips don’t make it so awful ha. The only thing I can’t stand is how they make my fingers feel. I find myself washing my hands after just a few of them.
