Review: Popcorn, Indiana Chocolate Peanut Butter Kettlecorn & Daft Russian Men’s Punk Chorus?

Junk Food Nation, sorry for the slight delay in post – I spent the morning bashing my head over and over again. Being a lawyer is great, isn’t it?

Anyways, the Junk Food Gal tipped me to this yesterday – apparently, during the Winter Olympic Opening Ceremonies, the Russian Police Chorus sang “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk.  I know this has gotten a lot of buzz already, but for those of you who didn’t know, here is the video:

Yes, this is real. No, this is not an Onion spoof.  Yes, the lead singers are REALLY into it (I love the guy just pumping his fist, contrasted with the guys in the back unsure of how to bop to the beat.)  At the 3:00 mark, the center guy tries to get the audience to clap along, despite the fact that everyone is sitting like 50 yards away.  Love it.

Today’s junk food: Popcorn, Indiana Chocolate Peanut Butter Kettlecorn!

Popcorn, Indiana Chocolate Peanut Butter Kettlecorn: The Money Shot

This Popcorn, Indiana Chocolate Peanut Butter Kettlecorn isn’t quite new, but it’s still a goodie even if it’s a slight oldie.  I love Popcorn, Indiana, btw. I’ve reviewed their products plenty on this blog, and have only good things to say about this quality company.

Their savory offerings are very good, but their sweet, drizzled-with-chocolate-and-other-goodness offerings have been very popular as well.  Let’s do pictures and then get into the review.

Popcorn, Indiana Chocolate Peanut Butter Kettlecorn: OOOOOH THAT LOOKS LOVELY

When I opened this bag of Popcorn, Indiana Chocolate Peanut Butter Kettlecorn, I got a slight peanut-y smell, but mostly what I smelled was that wonderful kettle corn aroma – slight sweetness, and lots of popcorn smell.  Each piece and/or cluster was generously drizzled in dark brown (chocolate) and light brown (peanut butter).

Popcorn, Indiana Chocolate Peanut Butter Kettlecorn: GENEROUS DRIZZLE

I popped a big handful of this Popcorn, Indiana Chocolate Peanut Butter Kettlecorn into my mouth, and OMG DELIGHTFUL.  But really – is this any surprise?

The popcorn itself was perfect – light, and slightly sweet, like I was eating Corn Pops.  Every few kernels had a slight saltiness to it, which produced an on-point kettle corn flavor. But, of course, it’s the drizzle that was the best part of it all.  The silky smooth drizzle sat on each piece of popcorn like a nice coat of confection that melted in my mouth as soon as it hit my tongue.  And there was PLENTY of drizzle to go around!

Flavor-wise? Everything you wanted it to be – very sweet peanut butter and chocolate flavor.  It was hard to separate the chocolate and peanut butter flavor – not that you’d want to – but basically these tasted like melted Reese’s Cups that were drizzled over it all.  I got most of the peanut butter pop from the end of the taste, where a good amount of peanut-y saltiness kicked in.

Good balance of chocolate and peanut butter, nice blend of sweet and salty, and a perfect topping to the already sweet/salty kettlecorn.  Good good stuff.

I actually just tried these last week (I think this is the first time I’ve gotten something before it was on this blog rather than because it was on it :)), and I had most of these same thoughts (especially the Reese’s part). Now I’m not sure if I want to try any of their other flavors because I don’t think anything will ever top this.
