Review: Peanut Butter & Co. Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Peanut Butter & The Craziest Driving Moments of the Week

Junk Food Nation, have you ever wondered how old is TOO OLD to drive?  Certainly if something like THIS happens: (click on the image to play if it doesn’t play automatically)

Actually, this accident, caught on Vine by user Alex Stack, was not a super-old person…but someone who was 59-years old.  By the way, this video is REAL – not something from a movie.  Frightening, huh?

But let’s take the age up a little older… Dick Van Dyke, of HUGE fame on TV and Movies, is 87.  EIGHTY SEVEN.  And recently, he was found slumped over the wheel of his friggin’ Jaguar while it was on fire on the side of the LA Freeway.  Apparently, it caught fire and he pulled over, but was unable to get out of the vehicle, needing assistance.  Some reports say Van Dyke might not even have known the car was on fire before he pulled over.  UM, WHAT?

These two examples are not examples of old people getting in car accidents because of slow reaction time or anything, and for the most part I think older folks CAN be safe drivers, since they tend to drive slower anyways.  But what the heck is Dick Van Dyke doing driving a flaming car down the LA highway, huh?

I think even if you’re 70-75, you’re probably ok on the road…87? Might be pushing it.  And if you’re 87 years old GOING 87 MPH?  Hmmmm…

Today’s junk food: Peanut Butter & Co. Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Peanut Butter!

Peanut Butter & Co. Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Peanut Butter: The Money Shot

I’ve reviewed Peanut Butter & Co.’s stuff before, and this Peanut Butter & Co. Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Peanut Butter is another flavor they sent me a while back.  As they describe it on their site, “Our all-natural peanut butter with cinnamon and raisins. It’s like spreading your peanut butter on cinnamon raisin bread—without the bread.”  Um, yes please.

Let’s take a look at a few photos, and get to it.

This Peanut Butter & Co. Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Peanut Butter was, right off the bat, sweeter than other peanut butters in recent memory.  I’m not sure if it was the combo of sugary cane juice and cinnamon, but this tasted very sweet (not like candy, but not the typical salty sweet peanut butter flavor I’m used to).

The texture of the peanut butter was interesting – definitely smooth and gooey, like any other peanut butter, but it also had a grittiness to it that I couldn’t pin – at times, when I ground the granules in between my teeth, I picked up salt, sugar, cinnamon, and fruitiness.  Maybe the grit was a combo of all of those things!  It wasn’t an unpleasant feeling at all – just different than what I’m used to.

The cinnamon flavor strong and very nice – it did indeed give the whole peanut butter more of a dessert-type feel, and indeed made it seem like the bread I was eating it on was cinnamon bread.  Very cool.  The raisins were a nice touch, adding a bit of fruity flavor here and there, but it was really the cinnamon that sold me. Add into that the bits of salt which helped bring back the savory spark, and I’d say this was my favorite Peanut Butter & Co. flavor yet.

Eat it on toasted bread – YOU’LL LOVE IT.

I’ve thought about trying this before, but never actually bought. This post has convinced me to give it a try.

    My reccomendation….try them all!

  3. I sort of like it, it’s not bad tasting, but the texture is a bit odd, spreading it can be a little tough sometimes with the knife catching the raisins. I second the odd grittiness, also, but agree that it’s somehow not troubling – like cinnamon sugar, not sand.

I haven’t tried it yet. Seems little pricey

I didn’t like Planter’s cherry chocolate PB. It was too sweet, there were few bits of cherries so much cranberries in it, and the chocolate for me tasted little artificial.

I wished companies would stop obessed with cranberries replacing many berries in their products. Examples: Special K chocolate strawberry bars no trace of strawberries just cranberries and flavoring, pepperidge farm “strawberry” cheesecake cookies using cranberries and elderberry juice, nutri grain crunch strawberry parfait using cranberries no traces of strawberries, and countless others.

@Alek: It IS a little pricey, but it’s still good. Agree – that Planter’s cherry chocolate looked a little weird – saw it and declined to buy it. I also, like you, hate the use of other berries …I think pepperidge Farm claimed to have Strawberries in their strawberry shortcake cookies, only to find that it was actually cranberries. Lame.

That vine video scares me… A lot.

Anyway, I love this peanut butter too! I live in NYC and the PB&Co. store is located in Greenwich Village. They make delicious sandwiches, one of them using this pb with vanilla cream cheese and apple slices in between the spreads. Hint hint, you should try to make this or stop by if and when you go to the city again.

I have finally tried this and proclaimed it excellent. Very happy I followed your recommendation.

I am so happy to have found a place to buy this. I bought it at a local store and it is almost gone and I cannot remember where I got it. I just love the product. A little on a
piece of healthy wheat toast….. Mmmmmmmmm. I also think it has less sodium and fat than others on our shelf.
