Twinkies Reloaded! (Twinkie Knockoffs Compiled) & The Nosh Show, Episode 8 (& Quick HR Derby Prediction)

Junk Food Nation, Happy Monday!  THE NOSH SHOW EPISODE 8 IS OUT:

This week, Marvo from The Impulsive Buy, Ryan from Grub Grade, Dubba from On Second Scoop, and me, your friendly neighborhood Junk Food Guy, plus a special guest and one of my first blogging friends, Jess “The Foodette” from Foodette Reviews, discuss the Fancy Food Show, a crunchy Subway sub, Starbucks soda, and cola-flavored Cheetos.

To stay on top of The Nosh Show, you can subscribe to The Nosh Show on iTunes. Or if you don’t use iTunes, you can use this link to subscribe using your podcast player of choice. You can also follow The Nosh Show on its own blogTwitter, and Facebook page.  OR just listen to it, embedded above!

As far as the Home Run Derby tonight, my thoughts: Apparently, Cuddyer “hits the ball hard,” according to a Colorado friend of mine.  That’s not good enough for me.  Alvarez is on two of my fantasy teams, so I know his power potential, but his regular low batting avg makes me nervous.  Harper is a favorite of mine, but I can see him not getting locked in either.  Sometime in the future, but not this year.  I REALLY want to pick Cespedes – I mean, when hits bombs they go FAR, ala Vlad Guerrero.  But I think his inexperience in this sort of competition hurts him.

That leaves Prince, Crush Davis, Cano and Wright, the hometown guy.  Much I think Wright will be motivated by the home crowd, I don’t see him winning.  I think Cano will come VERY close, but will be eliminated right before the final.  The final will be between Prince Fielder and Chris Davis.  Davis puts on a SHOW during BP, and Fielder, despite his slightly off year, is still just an amazing lob-ball hitter.  If I had to put money on it…I’d go with Prince.  By a nose.

So, last week, I previewed that Twinkies would be coming back TODAY, July 15th!  And in celebration of that, I did a quick post about some Twinkie Knockoffs I’d seen:

Twinkie Knockoffs

Tastykake Dreamies found @ Safeway

Twinkie Knockoffs

Weight Watchers Golden Sponge Cake found @ Safeway

I found these Tastykake and Weight Watchers varieties, and asked you guys to send me other examples! Well, you didn’t let me down…

Twinkie Knockoffs

Little Debbie Cloud Cakes

These Little Debbie Cloud Cakes were brought to my attention by a commenter, Mal K.  I also spotted them at Walmart, and snapped this pic.

Twinkie Knockoffs

Mrs. Freshley’s Dreamies

These Mrs. Freshley’s Dreamies were tweeted to me by @trbecher.  At first, I thought Mrs. Freshley’s, who makes the Honey Bun, was going to have a legal fight with Tastykake for copying the name of the cakes –  until I found out they are both owned by the same parent company, Flower Foods.  SNEAKY!

Twinkie Knockoffs

The Snack Artist Creme Cake

Actor Sis texted me this picture of The Snack Artist Creme Cakes, Safeway’s personal/generic line of snacks.  The box shows someone sleeping with the message “Sweet Creams.” Um…that can be interpreted a couple of different ways, Safeway.

Twinkie Knockoffs

Ted’s Bulletin Homemade Twinkies

My friend Nicole emailed me this pic of the homemade Twinkie dessert at Ted’s Bulletin, a restaurant here in DC.  WOW.  I love the squirts of what appear to be chocolate mousse on top.

Twinkie Knockoffs

Del Campo Tres Leches

Friend and food writer Nevin sent me this pic of the Tres Leches Twinkies at Del Campo, another new spot here in the DC Metro area. Simply awesome.

As a bonus, I thought I’d throw in some knockoff Hostess Cupcakes:

Twinkie Knockoffs

Found @ Safeway

Swirly Cupcakes? Really, Tastykake?  Although I guess that’s better than…

Twinkie Knockoffs

Found @ Walmart

“Chocolate Cupcakes,” the least descriptive name in the world.

Twinkie Knockoffs

Found on MySesameSeedBuns.blogspot.com

At least Sara Lee doesn’t try to give these knockoff Hostess cupcakes and Twinkies and crazy name, but keeps it descriptive.  Chocolate Creme, and Golden Creme.  Nice.

Happy Monday!  Enjoy your Twinkies, reborn!  And try to not spit up while listening to Chris Berman do the home run derby tonight.

I’ve had those Sara Lee cakes, and they are horrendous! My five year old actually spit it out and said it tasted “too yucky”! lol Eat at your own risk!

I rate twinkies 10/10 for a junk food snack, It Is small so It can be taken anywhere. The golden cake part of the twinkie has the same soft but fluffy texture of a cake, with the creme filling conveniently located on the inside.I believe the combination of the creme filling and the cake Is perfect, as I usually prefer chocolate pastries but twinkies do just fine for me.
