Review: Pepperidge Farm Signatures Toasted Coconut Truffle Cookies & Tuesday Night Hot Stove: Boobs, Baseball, Basketball

Junk Food Nation, SO MUCH happened last night. Let’s talk:

1)      The Victoria’s Secret 2012 Fashion Show was on last night.  Good God. Boobs. Booooobs.  Boobs. Whoever came up with this show is brilliant. Boobs.  I have nothing brilliant to say on this subject boobs boobs. #juvenile

2)      My hometown Washington Nationals signed Dan Haren to a one year 13-million dollar deal last night to add to an already impressive rotation of Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez, Jordan Zimmerman, and Ross Detwiler. First of all, Haren back in the NL is money in the BANK (see Gio Gonzalez).  Second, they were able to sign a former ace for less money than Hiroki Kuroda AND not give up any prospects??? As my friend Andrew stated, In Rizzo We Trust.

3)      In other baseball news, the Red Sox recently signed Mike Napoli and Shane Victorino to the same deal: 3 years, $39 million each.  Not horrible signings…but if these moves set up an Ellsbury trade, then the Sox are donks. Ellsbury is one of the best players in the AL when healthy.  Of course, maybe the Sox see him as Grady Sizemore, part 2? Dunno.

4)      The New Orleans Hornets finally have a new name…and it will be… THE NEW ORLEANS PELICANS.  Wow.  Apparently, the name change is because “The Brown Pelican is the state bird of Louisiana and Pelicans was the former name of the city’s minor league baseball team from 1887-1959 and 1977.” Plus, Louisiana is the Pelican State.  Thank God no other team decided to do this for these reasons.  Hellooooooo  Boston Codfish!

5)      Side Note to #3: My friend Joe texted me last night and said: “My favorite part of the story is how the [Charlotte] Bobcats wants the name ‘Hornets’ back.” LOL.  I bet they do.

6)      And my favorite bit of basketball news from last night: THE WASHINGTON WIZARDS BEAT THE MIAMI HEAT!  The Heat are still the favorites to win the championship, but they better figure some things out. You can’t blow out the Celtics on opening day and then squeak by the Spurs bench and Cleveland, only to lose to Washington?  Ugh. Ray Allen = liability on defense all year.  Mark it.

Today’s junk food: Pepperidge Farm Signatures Toasted Coconut Truffle Cookies!

Pepperidge Farm Signatures Toasted Coconut Truffle Cookies: The Money Shot

Pepperidge Farm Signatures Toasted Coconut Truffle Cookies were found at the Safeway near one of the courthouses I travel to.  I ducked into it to grab lunch and BAM! There these were on display.  It’s been a while since I’ve seen/tasted a new Pepperidge Farm product that wasn’t just a variation of something previous (like the billion Milano flavors that are out there). But a whole new “Signatures” line? Do tell, PF…

Cool look

The first thing that jumped out at me was the construction of these Pepperidge Farm Signatures Toasted Coconut Truffle Cookies – very different than anything I’d ever seen from Pepperidge Farms before.  Is that coconut creme inside, with coconut on top?

Cool description

Ahhh, ok…apparently, coconut is in EVERY PART of these Pepperidge Farm Signatures Toasted Coconut Truffle Cookies. I like the effort, PF.  I do.

Cool ingredients

Pepperidge Farm Signatures Toasted Coconut Truffle Cookies are 36 calories a cookie.  I didn’t think that was so bad, until…

WHAT THE

….oooooooooooooh that’s why these are called Pepperidge Farm Signatures Toasted Coconut *Truffle Cookies* – because these are TINY cookies.  Each one was the size of a quarter.  WOW.  36 calories a cookie? I COULD EAT THIS WHOLE BOX WITHOUT BLINKING.  Damn.

Wrapped in chocolate

Despite the tiny size, I was intrigued by these Pepperidge Farm Signatures Toasted Coconut Truffle Cookies. Two cookies, topped in toasted coconut, and wrapped in chocolate.  Winning formula. Let’s eat.

Pepperidge Farm Signatures Toasted Coconut Truffle Cookies

These Pepperidge Farm Signatures Toasted Coconut Truffle Cookies were good – not great – but definitely an above-average cookie experience.  The one thing I noticed when biting into one of these (it was hard to resist just popping the whole thing into my mouth) was how LIGHT it was.  Light and airy indeed.  These were almost as light as meringue cookies.

The cookie crunch was light, but present.  The chocolate outside was rich and sweet, and the fluffy interior honestly felt like the whip from a coconut cream pie – really nice and soft.  Did I get a STRONG coconut taste? Not really – I mean, it tasted like coconut, but this wasn’t like eating a Mounds where EVERYTHING is coconut.

No, this was just a nice light chocolatey cookie with some fluffy cream and coconut flavor.  Still, pretty tasty.  Thumbs up.

PURCHASED AT: Safeway

COST: $3.00
