In Stores Now: More Holiday Slump Breakers

Junk Food Nation, there’s nothing quite like getting up at 630am on a Saturday morning to get your vehicle inspected.  Ugh. At least it wasn’t freezing…OH WAIT IT WAS.

Let’s get to other things I’ve seen in stores that helped break my recent mini-new-product slump. Again, these are items that looked great but I wasn’t keen on reviewing.  If any of you want to let me know how they are/were…let me know!

Does winter mix = honey added?

I found this Limited Edition Planters Winter Spiced Mix at Target, in a gigundo can.  I like the idea that you have to see back of pan for warm roasting ideas. I’m going to guess they involving placing the nuts on a baking sheet, sticking them into the oven, and turning the oven on. Call me crazy.

But…it’s NOT Apple Crisp…

Yoplait Yogurt that tastes like Apple Crisp?  I prefer my Apple Crisp not to be ….well, yogurt.  And I’ve had apple yogurt before, so….no. (Found at Target.)

But…it’s DEFINITELY not pumpkin pie

Even worse, LIGHT Yoplait yogurt that tastes like…pumpkin pie? Sure it does.  This is one of those flavors where the original version is meant to be semi-warm, comforting, etc…not super cold and gloppy like yogurt.  And I’m not hating on Yoplait – but I don’t want to taste this flavor in my yogurt.  Maybe it’s good.  Who knows.  Not me. (Found at Target.)

Premade!

Mrs. Smith’s Pre-Baked Sweet Potato Pie didn’t convince me…how was this any different or better than the $5 GIGANTIC Costco Sweet Potato Pie that I KNOW is fresh and doesn’t need re-heating? (Found at Target.)

The pumpkin pie is a little shinier

Same with Mrs. Smith’s Pre-Baked Pumpkin Pie… I dunno, I feel like if you’re going to do a freezer aisle pie, and you know there is stiff competition out there from just grocery stores and bakeries GENERALLY, you should dress it up more….Pumpkin Pie with Mini-Cheeseburgers, or something. (Found at Target.)

Slimited Edition….heh heh

Skinny Cow with Limited Edition…sorry, Slimited Edition treats!  Best of Both Swirleds looked good, actually, and I’ve had and enjoyed Skinny Cow ice cream in the past.  But when you really look at these, it’s vanilla and chocolate ice cream swirled in a golden sandwich cookie.  So…not too exciting (to me) but I like the effort, SC! (Found at Walmart.)

WHOA

Now, this Angie’s Holidrizzle Kettle Corn looked AWESOME.  Some of my most popular posts on this blog were of the Popcorn, Indiana Drizzled Black & White Kettle Corn and Popcorn, Indiana Dark Fudge Chocolate Chip Kettle Corn …could these, would these give those a run for their money? Maybe…I wasn’t super interested in these only because the flavors, sea salt dark chocolate, and white chocolate peppermint, aren’t my favorite and I could already imagine how they’d taste on popcorn.  But if anyone finds these at Target, like I did, and wants to give me a report, I’d welcome it.

Go forth and taste, Junk Food Nation! And Happy Saturday.

I reviewed the holidrizzle popcorn on my blog, the chocolate sea salt is better than the white chocolate peppermint but they are both decent. They are even better mixed together

  2. Shorneys says:

The real question is how Snoop Lion would pronounce “holidrizzle.”

    • Lindemann says:

I’m amazed they didn’t secure his endorsement. “For all your Yuletide snackizzle, do what I do and stick with the Holidrizzle. But only on my left side, yeah, that’s the Crip side. Snoop Lion. Holidrizzle. Available at Targizzle.”

    • junkfoodguy says:

@Lindemann: I can just see the Target commercial now…complete with Snoop and a cavalcade of random other stars, like Adam West and Lebron

      @Shorneys: +1

But here are my nuts, so roast them, maybe?

I had a sampling of the popcorn at our local Common Market store featured in the last photo. The one for sampling that day was the white chocolate peppermint. It’s not bad.
