Pepperidge Farm Tim Tams Classic White & Things I’m Amazed At: The 2012 NFL Combine

Junk Food Nation, I admit that one of the reasons I haven’t been sleeping well is because I have been RIVETED by the NFL Combine coverage on the NFL Network.  If you think watching 20-year old dudes running speed drills for three hours is weird, shut it. No weirder than watching the Olympics, and somewhat less absurd.

Anyways, the main thing the Combine always impresses upon me is how athletic these kids are, even at their massive size.  Of course, the showcase of the weekend were the workouts of the two main QB talents, Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III.  I’ve sung the praises of Luck on this blog before, and both he and RGIII performed well enough to warrant the #1 and #2 selections in the draft, easily.  Follow their exploits here.

But how about those non-QBs? *I* think their workouts are even more jaw dropping.  USC’s Matt Kalil, the consensus best non-QB prospect in the draft, weighs over 300 lbs and ran a 40-yard dash in 4.99 seconds. He’s 6’7″, 306 lbs., everyone, and he runs at approximately 16.4 mph. Um, that’s above the 10 on the treadmill. Plus if you’ve never seen a massive load of an offensive lineman do a speed drill where they have to lie on their back, snap up to a facing forward position, and shimmy left and right to test their footwork, you are missing out.

Still, when discussing speed, the wide receiver prospects are the most impressive.  Georgia Tech’s Stephen Hill ran a 4.36 second 40-yard dash.  That’s almost 18.77 mph.  Lightning. (….is this article getting a little too sports geeky? Yeah? Ok…)

While I indulged in drill after drill on the NFL Network last night, I also tried today’s junk food: Pepperidge Farm Tim Tams Classic White!

The Money Shot

I discussed Pepperidge Farm Tim Tams before, but just to recap: Pepperidge Farms Tim Tams are an Australian cookie that is widely popular there, and in Australia they are made by Arnott’s but here in the states they are made by Pepperidge Farm. When I last blogged about these Tim Tams, people tweeted me to try the Pepperidge Farm Tim Tams Classic White. I finally found them at Target.

Yay for Australia!

Like white chocolatey pillows

White fudge surrounding white creme? Yummy

Important note: the biscuits in these Tim Tams, unlike the ones I had tried previously, are a lighter flour in color.  I love the flaky biscuit of the previous Tim Tams…hopefully this one isn’t too different.

Yeah, discount! Thank God for Target sales.

Cracked open

When I opened my package of Pepperidge Farm Tim Tams Classic White, one cookie was split open. Perfect for inside analysis.

Standard Tim Tam shape

Pepperidge Farm Tim Tams Classic White’s inner creme, as it were, was kind of chalky looking.  I took a quick lick and it tasted sweet, like fudge, but rather nondescript to be honest.

Bite mark

Layers of flakiness

The cookie itself had the same familiar layered crispy wafer feel, texture, and snap of a Tim Tam.  It was crunchy and light and didn’t make me feel heavy.  The white chocolate outer covering was rich with white chocolate flavor, but felt waxy – I’m sure that’s the oils. While undoubtedly the regular chocolate variety had the same oils, it was somehow more noticeable to me now, with the white chocolate.  Perhaps its because white chocolate flavor is meant to be creamier, and so the texture or feel of the white chocolate is magnified.

The inner creme was tasty, also full of white chocolate flavor. Combined with the cripsy layers and outer coating, it was one white chocolatey bomb.

I didn’t love these Pepperidge Farm Tim Tams Classic White as much as I liked their Chocolate Creme or their Caramel variety, but I still liked these nonetheless.  I think I’m just not a white chocolate kind of guy unless we’re talking some sort of white chocolate mint.

Still, solid cookie, PF.

  1. What should really amaze you is the amount of SWAG that these guys get just for participating in the combine. Under Armour gear, iPads, etc. I was on a flight with probably about ten of them heading out of Indianapolis yesterday and it was absolutely amazing seeing the proverbial bank vaults they were walking out with.

@IE: Wow, that’s really interesting. I forgot that all that stuff they wear during the testing they just get to keep. iPads too??? Damn. I’d be curious to know what else they get or what they are allowed to receive under the rules. And these kids are like 21 years old. Damn
