JFG, what’s up lately?

JFG Nation, my posting has been sporadic lately. The daily reason this blog doesn’t get a new addition is quite clear: after the life things we all deal with each day (work, sleep, eat, etc.) I usually have about 1-1.5 hrs to do something. Anything. Read a book, watch a show, blog, or…prepare for the JFB. And…I’ve been choosing to prepare for the JFB each evening. Building another piece of furniture. Reading about transitional labor. Comparing products on Amazon, Bed Bath Beyond, etc. Looking over insurance forms. It’s all happening.

Unfortunately, this website has taken a hit. I’m still not going anywhere, but just wanted to let you know where I was lately. These busy spells come in spurts…one day I feel like I have some free time and can put up a post, the next day the JFGal will mention: “Hey…we need another dresser.” No problemo, babe. *spends next four days assembling*

That’s the current state of affairs. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from every single parent I’ve talked to, it’s that this stage is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT for everyone – so I’m just taking this ish day by day. Current emotional package: happiness mixed with semi-disbelief. False sense of preparedness. Stomach churning. Constant furrowed brow.

So…yeah. This post isn’t an apology or meant to be self-serving; just an update for you. I’m super grateful I, and you, are still able to read all the other great food blogs, Twitters, IGs out there to stay afloat with food news. They’re doing good work.

As for me, all I can say is thanks for checking in. I’m good 🙂 How are you? Let me know in the comments below. I’ll be over here reading about c.b.banking :O

Sincerely,

The JFG

I still say embrace it. Even the chaos. This is the only time you’ll be preparing for your first child.

DUDE, just wait. This is nothing compared to being a parent. No time. No life. Your friends disappear even if they say they won’t. It’s not bad, but it’s different. I send you guys love!!

    Honestly,

I think that the way you’re using your time is the better, more important way. Focus on your wife and your child-to-be– those are the things that a good partner and father do. The physical people in your life are a thousand times more important than anything else.

(This is a message I wish someone had given to my husband, not so much during pregnancy, because I could handle it, but– he took 3 weeks of paternity leave and then spent the entire time burying himself in his own projects, both online and off. I wish he’d spend more of the time doing some caretaking and just bonding with the baby instead of being stressed out by her. Things are better now, but his focus on his projects made things more challenging than they needed to be. I didn’t have post-partum depression, but I think he might have.)

Congrats on having a baby! It’s funny, I remember in one of your posts a few years back, you said “I’m never having kids.”.
Thanks for taking the time to update and connect with your readers. It’s understandable – you’re busy with real life stuff, can’t be helped. 🙂

Miss your reviews. Honestly now, if you could only have one or the other, would you choose another baby or another bag of Herrs Bacon Cheddar Curls?
