REVIEW: Warheads Hotheads Extreme Heat Worms & Top Bunk vs. Lower Bunk?

JFG Nation, it’s back to school time and that means college students are moving back into dorms all over the country. My freshman year my dorm room had bunk beds. I shared it with a really great roommate but it was still BUNK BEDS. I hate bunk beds. As a kid you worry about falling off the top bunk while sleeping or getting crushed on the bottom bunk in case the bolts snap. Having to sleep on one as an almost-adult was annoying.

How the heck are you supposed to hook up on a bunk bed? The top bunk is a ridiculous ask, and the bottom bunk isn’t great either: “hey wanna fool around inside of a shoebox?” Why, college? WHY.

Have you ever had to sleep on a bunk bed, and if so, what was your preference? Top or bottom bunk? Let me know in the comments below.

Today’s junk food: Warheads Hotheads Extreme Heat Worms!!

I love sour gummy worms, and now Warheads has made them spicy? Ooooooo.

DO THESE TASTE GOOD? Yes!

WHY OR WHY NOT? I’ll admit – I’m a complete mark for these. I love sour gummy stuff and I love spice. Since spice is a sensation, and not a flavor, I am all about pairing spice with sweet.

The bag smelled mostly of the sour apple or watermelon flavor. Very very sweet smelling. I popped a worm into my mouth – nice and sweet and sour – standard gummy worm flavors. As I chewed however a definite heat emerged – DEFINITE heat. Wasn’t cinnamon-y, per se, but it’s easy for your mind to jump to that since cinnamon is the easiest sweet/spicy flavor to recognize. But when I really thought about it these were not Fireball-esque.

The flavors of the worms were classic candy-like watermelon, strawberry, and green apple flavors. The texture of the worms was standard and soft – more Trolli than Haribo. But the heat was executed very nicely. It grew and lasted, remaining on my tongue even after the swallow.

The watermelon flavor seemed to have the least heat of all but the worms overall still provided a good spiciness that was consistent. I have to say I really liked these. Not sure if they are necessarily an improvement over regular sour gummy worms, but the execution was superb. Nice job, Warheads!

ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW? This goes without saying but if you don’t want spice in your candy, don’t eat these. You will find them weird and gross. These ain’t for everyone.

The JFG

I was in bunk beds my junior year of college, so pushing 21 years old. I’ve also been in a bunk beds for 2 cruises that I took with friends. Definitely top bunk because I don’t want someone dangling feet in my face, and it’s a better vantage point to sock someone in the head with a pillow.

I’ll have to pick some of these up for the wife, she loves the contrasting sweet / spicy flavor combo. One of her favorite things is getting the strawberry flavored Sour Punch straws and eating them with crunchy Flaming Hot Cheetos. She literally wraps the Sour Punch straw around the Cheeto and eats them together. It’s disgusting.

As for bunk beds, I have no experience with them. I didn’t go to college and no one I knew had them growing up. I tend to get out of bed a lot during the night and even have a tendency to fall out of bed on occasion, so I would opt for the bottom bunk.

When I was a little kid, I shared a bunk bed with my twin brother, and I had the top bunk. So when I went to college, I picked the bottom bunk, just to see what it was like. Don’t get me wrong, I’m much happier in a real bed, but if the situation arises, I’m a top-bunker for life.

I’ve slept in bunk beds on school field trip and as a guest at a relative’s place. I didn’t like the narrow ladders.
I knew of a couple of people who bunked their beds in the dorms however they had undo it at the end of the academic year. I’m sure that was fun!

Having a bunk bed saved space AND a room so win-win for my parents. I slept top bunk while my younger brother slept bottom from elementary school to high school (and no I never fell off or missed the ladder, sleepy as I was in the morning). During college my friends and I went on a camping trip and stayed at a cabin with bunk beds. They all went crazy for the top bunks and duked it out rock-paper-scissors. I was content to take the lower bunk. I was amused, thinking something that was normal for me was fascinating to my friends. It also made me wonder what other things we do that we take for granted, that are a normal part of our lives but are unusual or interesting for others.

I did bunk beds for the first 1.5 years of college, then was lucky to get a single. My preference when in bunk beds was for the lower bunk because you could hang sheets from the upper bunk for a little privacy, plus I could have my glasses and alarm clock in reach though not on the bed.

As for fooling around–that wasn’t a dorm room activity unless your roommate was out. Or you were a jerk.

Top bunk definitely, so I could pretend I didn’t have an awful roommate.

Did almost slip getting down once, but I had been up more than 24 hours and took it as a sign I needed to go back to bed. Woke up hours later to see a housemate pulling another friend into the bedroom to prove I was still asleep, since he couldn’t believe it was possible…

First time I slept in abunk bed was at a hostel when I attended AnimeNEXT in Atlantic City. Took the bottom bunk to make it easier to get up in the morning and easier to get to sleep after an 20-hour day.

Although I would prefer top bunk for longer periods, I was only gonna spend two nights there, and then, most of the night at 18+ panels. ?
