Review: Limited Edition Strawberry Nut M&M’s & Do You Care About the Kentucky Derby Tomorrow?

JFG Nation, it completely passed over me that the Kentucky Derby was tomorrow? Huh? I’ve been up for the past nine nights watching non-stop playoff basketball and hockey and I’m delirious. There’s a horse race tomorrow?

I love the Derby but there’s been absolutely no hype. At least not in my world. Apparently it’s because there are 20 horses this year, all of them are green, and there’s no overwhelming favorite like in years past. I’ll still watch he fastest two minutes in sports, but if I hadn’t seen a random commercial, I never would have known it was even happening.

Will you be watching the Derby tomorrow? Do you even care? Let me know in the comments below.

Today’s junk food: Limited Edition Strawberry Nut M&M’s!!

Strawberry M&M’s? These aren’t that new but I hadn’t seen them until now. Honey Nut, Chili Nut, Coffee Nut, and now Strawberry Nut? I want to see Habanero Nut, Wasabi Nut, and Turkey Nut next.

DO THESE TASTE GOOD? Yes.

WHY OR WHY NOT? There is an initial fruity taste that is clearly embedded in the candy shell. Sort of reminds me of Fruity Pebbles or Crunchberries; it reminded the JFGal of Froot Loops. The initial strawberry fruitiness is noticeable but quickly fades as the flavor of a general peanut M&M emerges.

I liked these because there wasn’t anything offensive – the fruit flavor was so fleeting it didn’t have time to offend. When I tried to micro-analyze that initial taste, I GUESS I could get the tiny flavor of PB&J – that millisecond taste when the jelly and the PB mixes together? I got a little of that here.

All in all, these were fine. I liked them.

ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW? These will be the first of many fruit-Nut combos, I can just feel it.

Since M&M’s is doing caramel filling they could do with strawberry jam like filling. MMMM!

  2. April says:

Horse racing and greyhound racing are just too violent in injuries and too many sad endings for the animals involved. The jockey world is also a great soap opera with sex and drugs and crime. But those M and M’s look delightful.

  3. Jessica says:

I’ll probably watch, but it’s not like you can play favorites as a fan in horse racing. Careers are always short because they either don’t win or win and get retired for breeding. So unless you have money on it, it rarely matters who wins.

Now, how about those M&Ms on a peanut butter sandwich?

  4. Liz S. says:

I only care about the Kentucky Derby tomorrow because of the underdog horse named Patch. He’s a one-eyed horse and has quite the backstory.

  5. Dave Eaton says:

I always watch the Derby, but I don’t really care much who wins.

The M and Ms are intriguing.

  6. ruckus says:

I watch it too, perhaps just for lack of anything else to occupy part of my mind while I do other things. The race is a bit exciting but most of me is like “why am I cheering for how wealthy people spend their lives”…

  7. Safi Karim says:

I’ve never watched the derby before. As far as the chocolate, it has 2 grams of fiber, which makes it an instant win!

When I was younger, by dad’s rule for any junk food–especially sweet junk food–was that it had to have at least 1g of fiber (no matter how unhealthy it might have been otherwise)

Even now more than ten years later I automatically look at the fiber content of everything I eat

Wasabi Nut M&M’s – now THAT’S an idea I can get behind!
