Review: Fruit Punch Peeps, The Nosh Show Ep. 98: Mr. 7-Eleven Guy’s Opinion, New MLB Extra Innings Rules?

JFG Nation, the NHL has a new rule this season for OT – it becomes a 3 on 3 game, which is awesome. More ice, players flying around. The gameplay becomes super heightened and intense. It’s awesome.

Not to be outdone, MLB is testing out a rule in the World Baseball Classic and some minor leagues where extra innings will begin with a runner on second base. Wait, WHAT? Yes, it’s true. Apparently, this rule is being tested out to, in some instances, curb the need for players to go up there and try to swing away in an attempt to win a game by themselves.

This rule seems really stupid. It doesn’t really have any comparison to other sports, because you couldn’t do this in other sports – how would you begin OT with your team halfway to scoring? Have the soccer ball start in mid air sailing to the goal? Same with a basketball? Of course, college football OT rules are SORT OF like this – they begin they’re OT drives on their opposing team’s 25 yard line.

While I don’t think this rule would ever carry over to the MLB game, apparently this rule ALREADY EXISTS in international baseball around the world! Huh, maybe I’m behind the times. What do you think? Tell me in the comments below.

Today’s junk food: Fruit Punch Peeps!!

Fruit Punch Peeps were spotted in stores LAST FRIGGIN’ YEAR but I didn’t see them until this year. Damnit. I like Peeps, I love Fruit Punch, LET’S DO THIS. As my Doctor Sis said when she saw these, fruit punch reminds me of childhood. SWEEP ME DOWN MEMORY LANE, PEEPS!

DO THESE TASTE GOOD? YES.

WHY OR WHY NOT? When I opened the package, the aroma of fruit punch PUNCHED ME IN THE FACE. Pun intended. The sweet and almost acridly sharp fruit punch smell was unmistakeable, and wafted and permeated my soul. I took one bit, and while at first the flavor was mild, the fruit punch flavor which came from INSIDE the Peep was vivid and on point. It has that distinctly citrus-y bite. There was not a huge marshmallow muting effect; the fruit punch flavor was strong. I think the flavor was SPOT. ON. Fruit punch fans will appreciate the execution.

ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW? These are loaded with tons of red dye and Peeps are not the healthiest things in the world. If you don’t like Peeps already, you’re not going to like these; no amount of sweet sweet fruit punch flavor will. But if you dug Hawaiian Punch growing up? I think you’ll enjoy these.

PURCHASED AT: Harris Teeter, Park Potomac, MD

Sincerely,

The JFG

Weird rule. I’d almost prefer to give each team 4 outs instead if the goal is to end the game more quickly. Strains pitching arms though.

  2. Anne Sutton says:

OK I have no thoughts on hockey or baseball. But with Peeps, we love to dunk them in hot cocoa to flavor it up. Or even melt them in s’mores. This would be an interesting one to try that way lol

  3. Merissa says:

I have to admit that I’m a little bit tempted by these. Peeps have a chemical taste I don’t care for, so maybe they’d make a good novelty air freshener, or something,

  4. Sascha says:

Stupid rule. Maybe start the count at 1-1 in extras, but really I don’t need a change.

  5. Jenn says:

I’ve tried almost all of the flavored Peeps (sour cherry, sour lemon/lime, blue raspberry, fruit punch, and watermelon) and thought they were all good. I actually don’t think I’ll eat plain peeps again as long as one of these is available. The sour cherry and blue raspberry were my favorites. Oddly. I hated Hawaiian Punch as a kid (and now) and actually liked the peeps!
