Review: Trader Joe’s Pink Grapefruit Marmalade & A Weekend of Not Watched Sporting Events!

JFG Nation, yesterday was both the Pro Bowl and the NHL All-Star Game, and I watched exactly zero seconds of either. Besides the fact that my Twitter and Facebook were blowing up with world news, both events in the past were, like most All-Star events, stale and boring.

This year, however, both football and hockey attempted to make strides to liven up the all-star festivities. The NFL had a much cooler skills competition reminiscent of the weekend NBC quarterback battles I remember seeing when I was a kid. New events included something called the drone drop, where NFL players attempted to catch balls in the blaring sun from heights of 125 feet. Pretty awesome, actually:

Meanwhile, the NHL All Star game was, for the first time, a 3-on-3 tournament between the Atlantic, Metropolitan, Central, and Pacific Division. They played, Frozen Four style, until one team of all-stars emerged: The Metropolitan Division! The 3-on-3 style allowed for faster speeds and bad ass clips like this:

This weekend was also the Finals of the Australian Open, where Federer and Serena emerged victorious. I feel like it’s 2008 all over again!

I’m sad I didn’t get to see any of these cool sporting events, but if you did, let me know what you thought in the comments below!

Today’s junk food: Trader Joe’s Pink Grapefruit Marmalade!!

Trader Joe’s Pink Grapefruit Marmalade was found in Trader Joe’s, and took me by surprise. For one, I haven’t seen a lot of pink grapefruit products out there lately. Well, no NEW ones, rather. Second, marmalade? I haven’t eaten marmalade in forever! What is this, a tea party in the UK in the 1950’s? The last time I had marmalade was out of a tiny little jar that came with a Hickory Farms gift pack back in 1996, I’m positive.

DOES THIS TASTE GOOD? YES.

WHY OR WHY NOT? Immediate pink grapefruit flavor that is heightened by a thousand pounds of sugar. Whereas normally pink grapefruits are sour/tart with a mild sweetness, this was like eating liquified pink grapefruit gummy candies. Still, I love those candies, and I think the citrus in this marmalade was genuine enough to make my tongue curl.

ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW? There’s a whole lotta rind in this marmalade, so you’ll be chewing some rind bits with every bite. If you’re someone who prefers the smoothness of jelly or the lumpiness of jam, this is WAAAY more texture than that. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

PURCHASED AT: Trader Joe’s, Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE

WHERE FOUND I STORE? End cap, new product display.

COST? $3.99.

Sincerely,

The JFG

You definitely don’t see a lot of grapefruit products, and I love grapefruit. The last one I had was a limited yogurt with grapefruit….think it was by chobani. I’ll have to try this.

I saw this but didn’t grab it last time I was there. I was concerned about there not being enough sugar to satisfy me. I will be getting it on my next trip!
