D.J. #2: [mockingly] That blizzard – thing. That blizzard – thing. Oh, well, here’s the report! The National Weather Service is calling for a “big blizzard thing!”

D.J. #1: Yessss, they are. But you know, there’s another reason why today is especially exciting.

D.J. #2: Especially cold!

Today’s junk food: Cookies & Cream Pocky!!

Cookies & Cream Pocky: The Money Shot

I grew up eating Pocky, the Asian stick-like cookie/cracker that was often coated with a waxy strawberry or chocolate or vanilla coating. They resembled Pringles Stix (except Pocky came first, YEARS ago). Nowadays, you can find crazy varieties of Pocky outside of the original Neopolitan flavors – there’s green tea, pineapple, coffee, etc. You name it, they gots it.

These Cookies & Cream caught my eye for obvious reasons. Besides the fact that my friend Joe would be happy they spelled it CREAM and not CREME, my first thought was: “Would these taste like Oreos?” Opening the package, these did smell like Cookies & Cream ice cream – that sort of bright vanilla-y smell coupled by the familiar cookie aroma.

Popping a couple of these sticks into my mouth, I munched. Now the thing you have to realize about Pocky is that it is ALWAYS going to have a bit of a waxy taste – that is a given, and if you don’t like that, they aren’t for you. These had a waxy feel that muted the cookies & cream flavor…but I could see where Pocky was going with this. The flavor profile WAS cookies & cream – they basically nailed the flavor profile – but it felt diluted, like all other Pocky flavors generally are. It was basically a weak Cookies & Cream flavor.

It wasn’t bad as far as Pocky goes, but since I was hoping for an Oreo flavor, it fell flat. But, for fans of Pocky and who are used to the waxiness that comes along with these snacks, I think you’ll like these.
