Review: New Pepperidge Farm Mocha Chocolate Milano Cookies & New Year, New Foods?

Holy cow, JFG Nation. You really really care about my hair health. Well, thank you. You’re starting out 2016 with a lot of love…even if it is hair love.

Let’s talk about YOU right now, JFG Nation. Of course you learn about new snack foods on this website, so there’s always something new to taste around the corner. But, as a general matter, are you as part of your New Year resolutions (or just because you want to be more adventurous in 2016) going to try any new FOODS this year? If not, I WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU ADD THIS ADVENTURE TO YOUR LIST!

Part of the reason I run this site is because I *am* an adventurous eater, and I want you to come along with me! I have a co-worker who commented to me the other day that she had never eaten a salty/sweet combo, and I definitely frightened her with the shriek I embarrassingly let out.

“No kettle corn?!!?!?”

“Nope.”

“No breakfast sausage in maple syrup??!!!?!?!?”

“Nope.”

I was incredulous. WHAT THE HELL WAS HAPPENING. (I’m determined to figure out a way to trick her into eating a piece of chocolate covered bacon, but that’s besides the point.) It’s 2016, and there are TONS of delicious things out there to eat, even if they are outside your comfort zone. I know that you like what you like, but trust me – THERE’S ALWAYS MORE FOOD TO BE EATEN. EXPAND YOUR OPTIONS!

Maybe you’re someone who has always been scared of a raw oyster, but this is the year!  Or you don’t like raw fish but are determined to figure out why guys like me chow on tuna rolls like it’s OUR JOB. Or it could be a vegetable…parsnips? What IS that? Time to find out why they are DELICIOUS SMOTHERED IN GARLIC AND BUTTER.

As for me? I ate BEAR STEW just two days ago (I’m still alive!) and have sworn to eat OSTRICH (apparently, the “new red meat“) SOMEWHERE by the end of the year. Mark it.

What new thing are YOU determined to try this year? Let me know in the comments below.

Today’s junk food: New Pepperidge Farm Mocha Chocolate Milano Cookies!!

Jeez louise, a second Milano cookie review? A back to backer? Well, PF is charging into this new year, Oreo-style. New Pepperidge Farm Mocha Chocolate Milano Cookies…let’s do pictures and get right to it.

I sniffed the open bag of New Pepperidge Farm Mocha Chocolate Milano Cookies, and these REALLY smelled like mocha – strong coffee notes with plenty of chocolate smell. Very sweet aroma – almost like I was smelling a mocha hot chocolate from Starbucks or Coffee Bean.

However, biting into one of these New Pepperidge Farm Mocha Chocolate Milano Cookies, the Mocha flavor didn’t go far enough. It started out all well and good, with an almost burnt sugar caramel-ish flavor to the coffee…but as I chewed, the coffee flavor, even mixed with the chocolate, got muted by the typical Milano cookie. I wanted the coffee flavor to PUSH more, like when I’ve chewed chocolate covered espresso beans or the like, but it didn’t.

In a lot of ways, it was almost like these New Pepperidge Farm Mocha Chocolate Milano Cookies were based on a weak coffee flavor. Definitely a hint of coffee was present, but not enough for me to think of these as Mocha. It was almost like the flavor of a plain Milano dipped INTO coffee, soaked for a little bit, and then you popped it into your mouth. Not a BAD flavor, per se, but not bold enough on its own.

The JFGal weighed in, and declared that the Salted Caramel Chocolate Milanos from yesterday tasted more like salted caramel than these did of mocha. I concur.

Given the two, I’d opt for the Salted Caramel variety for sure. Leave these in the store.

PURCHASED AT: Target, Germantown, MD

COST: $2.89

Ever tried alligator? Tastes like chicken.

I’ll try anything once. I don’t necessarily make a resolution to eat anything though.

  2. Alek says:

Why not they change up the cookies? It seems to be same cookies. Coffee flavored cookies that way can have both flavors meshing.

anchovy….never had them on pizza. Do any chains still have them as a pizza topping option anymore???

I’ve decided that life is too short and I need to just suck it up and order some real deal quality truffles to continue my addiction to that unreal flavor.
Also plan on trying every kind of edible mushroom possible. Thank you Wegman’s.

Vegemite. It seems to be a love or loathe food for most people, and I’ve been curious about it for a long time. I resolve to try it this year!

If I recall, its very salty and a disgusting brown color. I think you can by a sample pack at World Market.

I liked vegemite when I tried it. I also like something from Organic Gourmet called something like European savory nutritional yeast extract. It’s light caramel brown and has a really strong cheesy taste, makes good nondairy mac & cheese as well as on crackers or in sandwiches and is high protein. I think people in Vegemite country like Vegemite on toast and in sandwiches. Nutritional yeast in general is pretty tasty stuff unextracted, I even have a nondairy Parmesan cheese replacement that is based on nutritional yeast, ground nuts and seeds (Parma! uses walnuts, sunflower and hemp seeds but the possibilities for homemade are endless), tastes great on more than just pasta and I actually like it better than dairy Parmesan cheese (and I used to buy that stuff in five pound bags….). It doesn’t try to taste exactly like Parmesan but just can be used in similar ways.

OK, next up are the Banana Chocolate ones. Seriously! Saw them at Target, next to the salted caramel ones.

Can it be considered adventurous to try all the different M&M and Oreo combos sure to come out in 2016?

Never had sushi. Not afraid of it, just happen to have a family that doesn’t like cooked fish to begin with, so selling them on uncooked might be tough.

    We absolutely LOVE the Milano Mocha cookies, but we can no longer find them in any stores here in Central Florida…did they stop making them?;
