Review: New Rah Rah Raisin Girl Scout Cookies & TAX DAY 2015! *sigh* & Which Summer Movie Are You ALL-IN On?

JUNK FOOD NATION, what UP.  It is TAX DAY. Are you reading this blog post while in line at the post office? Do you have a cocktail in your hand yet? You should. You really really should.

Feeling famished after dropping that envelope at the post office / clicking send on TurboTax / throwing dollar bills straight into a mail box? Then head on over the GrubGrade for all of your fast food Tax Day deals! Ryan has already posted about Boston Market, Pizza Hut, and more (plus TAXES SCHMAXES IS BACK at California Tortilla).

Meanwhile, how ’bout a movie? There are three movies I’m excited about this summer (there’s plenty of other movies I’m stoked for – Ant-Man, Inside Out, Entourage, etc.) – but as far as MUST-SEE-IN-THEATER-SUMMER-BLOCKBUSTERS, here’s trailers for all three:

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON:

Why I’m stoked for this movie: I was probably the last one on board with the whole Marvel-comics-as-movies thing. But ever since watching Winter Soldier like nine times, I AM FULLY ON BOARD. Plus, I mean, c’mon. HULKBUSTER ARMOR. I’ll shell out the ten bucks just to see the Hulkbuster armor in action more! CRUSH CRUSH CRUSH!

JURASSIC WORLD:

Why I’m stoked for this movie: Chris Pratt. Raptors. Huge ass dinosaurs. Memories of reading Jurassic Park as a child on the floor of my bedroom. Star Lord. Plus, anything to get the awful taste of Jurassic Park 2 and 3 out of my mouth. The Matthew Broderick Godzilla too. Gross.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS:

Why I’m stoked for*………WAIT. The Terminator is….JOHN CONNOR?  Wait, what? That makes….what? I’ll pay just to see how they dig themselves out of this one. WTF.

What about you, Junk Food Nation? The weather is warming up, so why not spend hours of your day INDOORS watching things other people did? Which one are you most excited for? Or maybe – none of them? Tell me in the comments below.

Today’s junk food: New Rah Rah Raisin Girl Scout Cookies!!

New Rah Rah Raisin Girl Scout Cookies: The Money Shot

So after my so-so review of the Toffee-tastic Girl Scout Cookies, I got a lot of responses that the New Rah Rah Raisin Girl Scout Cookies were waaaay better. It’s funny, too, because back during Episode 46 of the Nosh Show, the other Nosh Show hosts and I ranked these cookies last among the ones we’d want to try of the new flavors (Trios, Toffee-tastic, and Rah-Rah-Raisin.) But, since people said these Rah Rah Raisin cookies were good, I wanted to see for myself.

New Rah Rah Raisin Girl Scout Cookies

I was skeptical about these New Rah Rah Raisin Girl Scout Cookies because I like SOFT oatmeal raisin cookies. Some people don’t like oatmeal raisin cookies at all. I am not one of those people – I LOVE ’em. But I’m so used to them being soft….or at least chewy.  Plus, Greek yogurt chunks? Hm.

New Rah Rah Raisin Girl Scout Cookies come 13 to a sleeve, which, based on the nutritional info, means I got ripped off – where’s my 14th cookie??? *flips over table*

New Rah Rah Raisin Girl Scout Cookies

Each New Rah Rah Raisin Girl Scout Cookies was nicely textured, and right away I could tell – this was going to be a dry but crunchy cookie. Uh oh. Still, there looked like there were a decent amount of raisins in the cookie, and the yogurt chunks were visible too.  The cookie smelled good – that nice fresh oatmeal aroma.

New Rah Rah Raisin Girl Scout Cookies

I bit into one of these New Rah Rah Raisin Girl Scout Cookies ….hmmmmmmm…..I LIKED IT! It was, as suspected, a dry cookie. Very crumbly. Definitely NOT full of oils that would’ve rendered it nice and soft. Just a light crunchy cookie. The texture of the chew was nice, though. Good oatmeal feel. Crumbly, but crumbled nicely, and didn’t feel like I was eating sand (I’ve had that too).

The flavor of the cookie was nice – a classic crunchy oatmeal cookie. Definitely a good amount of raisin – the mix of raisin and oatmeal flavor I had in my head was achieved. The best part about this cookie was that it wasn’t overly sweet, making you wonder how much corn syrup was in the dough. The oatmeal was slightly sweet, but not overly so, and the raisins stood alone.

Bursts of creamy sweetness came when the yogurt pieces were crunched, but it was really subtle. I didn’t taste Greek yogurt, obviously; it was more like I was eating an oatmeal raisin cookie that had a hint of, say, Oreo creme in tiny pockets here or there – just enough to complement/sweeten the chew now and again.

I wasn’t sure I’d like this, but I actually agree – I enjoyed these a lot more than the Toffee-tastic!  Just better overall flavor from good execution. Yes, a dry crunchy oatmeal cookie isn’t my first choice…but you done good with these, Girl Scouts.

“The weather is warming up, so why not spend hours of your day INDOORS watching things other people did?” Good line.

I wasn’t thrilled with the cookies -can’t taste the “Greek yogurt chips” at all, and too dry for my mouth. The movie worth begging my wife to take care of our child to see is “Avengers 2” for me.

  2. MP says:

My thoughts? $5 for 13 cookies. THIEVES! 38.46¢ per cookie. Whomever is making these cookies is getting very rich.

I’m pretty sure the Girl Scouts are a Ponzi scheme. With cookies.

  3. Kaitlyn says:

these are alright. like you, i’d much rather prefer a soft oatmeal cookie. i think they go alright with tea, or coffee if you like that.

  4. The only thing we’re likely to go see is the Minions movie.
