Review: New Stacy’s Fire Roasted Jalapeno Pita Chips, NFL Divisional Weekend Picks, & MIND CONTROLLED HELICOPTERS??

Junk Food Nation, I saw this video earlier this week, and had to share it with you. Just…just watch:

DID YOU SEE WHAT I JUST SAW? I MEAN, SERIOUSLY. Is this real? IS THIS REAL?????

Apparently so. This helicopter, made by Puzzlebox, reads your brains EEG waves and translates them into remote actions you want the helicopter to make. The reading of EEG waves is not uncommon – its the same things that docs study when you do a sleep study, for example – but using it to CONTROL SH*T? HOLY. EFF.

I’m still very skeptical, but there’s tons of videos of people testing out this contraption on YouTube. Mind controlled anything is crazy to me, much less a crazy ass plastic helicopter that can zoom all over the place. That said, I FULLY SUPPORT FURTHER TELEKINESIS RESEARCH! I’ve tried, but I still haven’t mastered getting a ball to land on a certain number on a Roulette wheel. Stupid brain. MOVE THINGS WHEN I TELL YOU TO MOVE THEM.

But yeah – this video freaked me out….and now I want one of those helicopters for myself. What do you think, JFNation? Freaky or awesome? Tell me in the comments below.

THE BEST WEEKEND IN FOOTBALL IS HERE!

OMGOMGOMGOMG FOOTBALL FOOTBALL GAAAAAAAH. The NFL Divisional Weekend is, by far, the best weekend in football all year. All the regular seasons crap is gone. All the mediocres (uh, what are you still doing here, Carolina) are ousted by the WC round. All the #1 and #2 seeds are BACK. Plus, four games, two on Saturday, two on Sunday?? I’m fist pumping right now.

Plus, after the nonstop orgasm of professional pigskin ends Sunday evening…THEN THE COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME IS MONDAY NIGHT. Oregon v. Ohio State, in the battle of non-SEC teams ZOMG. It’s like opening up that empty pizza box from the weekend…AND THERE’S STILL ONE MORE SLICE LEFT. Love it. I will be sports geeking this weekend. Join me. My and the BQB’s thoughts:

Ravens @ PATRIOTS (-7): Jeez, the one team Tom Brady didn’t want to see, right? Since 2009, the Pats and the Ravens have matched up three times, all in New England, and the Pats have taken it on the chin twice. TWICE. What is going on, Brady? Uggs too tight? I watched the Patriots a lot this year, not only because they were a divisional rival, but also because I had both Tom Brady and Julian Edelman on my fantasy team. And you know what? Toward the end of the season, they really weren’t clicking on all cylinders. AT ALL. Still, the Ravens have shown susceptibility at the corners, and the Pats are better at stopping the run than the Ravens are stopping the pass. The key, as usual, will be Wacko Flacco. If Joe Cool pulls off another stellar performance, well, so long Beantown. I’m going to give the PATRIOTS the benefit of the doubt on the money line, but the Ravens cover. This will be a close game.

BQB: Ravens +7. Ravens money line. Ravens are red hot.

Panthers @ SEAHAWKS (-11): ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZwait, this game should be getting more buzz, no? I mean, two “mobile” quarterbacks? Should be lots of fireworks, right? Nope. Cam has been up and down, Seahawks tough at home, I’m falling asleep writing this pick. Nothing about Carolina inspires me to think they’ll hold the ball for long stretches of time. SEAHAWKS to win and cover.

BQB: Seahawks -11. Seahawks money line. BQB says Carolina getting good odds. (Not sure what he means by that, since he chose Seattle ATS.)

Cowboys @ PACKERS (-6):  To me, this is the game I’m most interested in. After last week’s Detroit debacle, I want to see if the Cowboys are for real. Of all the games, this has the smallest spread, and both teams have firepower. Will this be known as the Aaron Rodgers torn-calf-game, where he led the Pack to victory on one leg? Plus, here’s a meaningless stat – Cowboys 8-0 away this season, and the Pack are 8-0 at home. The Packers can’t defend the run, the Cowboys can’t defend the pass. This…this is a close one. Will we see DeMarco Murray carry it 100x, or will Rodgers just hit Randall Cobb over and over and over? I almost feel like whoever scores first here will win the game. Eff it – Cowboys to cover and win.

BQB: Cowboys +6. Cowboys to win. Dallas played its bad game and Rodgers not 100%.

Colts @ BRONCOS (-7): Remember how the end of the season was for Denver? They were injured, they weren’t scoring consistently? Well, ignore that. I’m serious. Because this Denver defense is going to take care of business. Yes, Luck to TY Hilton is awesome. So you double cover that guy. Luck to Coby Fleener? Dwayne Allen? Meh. The Indy running game? Yeah, Daniel Herron has shown sparks, but I like CJ Anderson and Ronnie Hillman waaay better. This year, Denver actually HAS a running game to cover up all the ducks Peyton throws, and actually HAS a great defense. I just see Denver controlling the clock, and tearing the Colts a new one. BRONCOS to win and cover.

BQB: Colts +7. Colts win. Denver weak.

Enjoy the games this weekend, everyone! Tell me your picks in the comments below.

TODAY’S JUNK FOOD: New Stacy’s Fire Roasted Jalapeno Pita Chips!!

New Stacy's Fire Roasted Jalapeno Pita Chips: The Money Shot

New Stacy’s Fire Roasted Jalapeno Pita Chips: The Money Shot

I’ve reviewed plenty of Stacy’s products on this blog, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen a real new flavor of pita chip by them. So when I saw these New Stacy’s Fire Roasted Jalapeno Pita Chips, it was an insta-grab. I mean, I can take down a family-size bag of pita chips with no problem. Adding fire roasted jalapeno flavor? This can’t be bad…right?

New Stacy's Fire Roasted Jalapeno Pita Chips

Over the years, I learned a LOT more about salsa, about making salsa, and about salsa ingredients. I’ve seen first hand how burning the skin of a pepper changes the flavor of a salsa, how baking the peppers changes the flavor…so, with these New Stacy’s Fire Roasted Jalapeno Pita Chips, I want more than just pepper flavor.

New Stacy’s Fire Roasted Jalapeno Pita Chips have about 15 calories a chip…

…and are loaded with lots of great ingredients: dried bell pepper, dried jalapenos, paprika, fire roasted jalapeno pepper, etc. Plus, as I’ve learned, TASTY TASTY SUNFLOWER OIL.

New Stacy's Fire Roasted Jalapeno Pita Chips

I opened the bag of these New Stacy’s Fire Roasted Jalapeno Pita Chips, and sniffed. They smelled really good – I didn’t notice any distinct “fire roasted” smell right away. It basically smelled like a bit of pepper, and lots of good spices –  a generally savory aroma coupled with that good bread-y smell you get with any bag of pita chips.

Each chip was speckled with dustings of dark powders, and the chips themselves had green and red bits embedded into the surface. I crunched one and…

New Stacy's Fire Roasted Jalapeno Pita Chips

BOOM. FLAVOR EXPLOSION. New Stacy’s Fire Roasted Jalapeno Pita Chips – you done good.

The pita chips themselves are the standard, good quality you’ve come to know and expect from Stacy’s. Nice and hearty, very crunchy, good toasted flavor and a nice salty bread-y quality to the whole thing. But the flavor that was added to these were incredible. My first impression was NOT some overwhelming jalapeno pepper vegetable-y flavor, but rather a nice general savoriness.  In other words, my first impression was the general savory package most chips have – onion and garlic powders, salt, etc.

But as I chewed, the flavor of the jalapenos and other peppers began to emerge. Not in a vegetable-y way, but in a cooked pepper way – that nice, deep, distinct pepper flavor…like when you have peppers and onions on a brat. I couldn’t really say, “YES THESE WERE FIRE ROASTED” but these were definitely a cooked pepper flavor. The chips had a TINY bit of kick, but I couldn’t feel any burn. No – real jalapenos, when you cook them, lose a lot of their edge but you keep that deep pepper flavor with a tiny bit of kick. These chips had that.

Toss that flavor on top of the general onion/garlic/salt savoriness I was describing before, and these chips were really REALLY tasty. Some of the best I’d had in a while. Plus, that tasty tasty sunflower oil too.

I HIGHLY recommend these chips. Great flavor, comforting crunch. Thumbs up.

Didn’t the Ravens miss a short FG and drop an easy touchdown in the one playoff loss to the Pats? So they really should be 3-0 against them.

  2. alek says:

That looks so much fun with the brain powered helicopter toy! Would love that.

  3. MP says:

The Cowboys winning in Green Bay & in the cold? Yeah right. It’s going to be in the low Teens. No snow, unfortunately. Pats, Panthers (ha!), Packers & Colts. Tho Seahawks & Packers for the NFC title will be interesting. I still want a losing team to win the Super Bowl.

  4. Jaime says:

I want to see the pack win simply cause I hate the cowboys. And I have a good feeling about my ravens showing up and doing well tomorrow. Now lets talk about that mind controlled helicopter for a minute. No way I would try that thing! I know that I would get distracted and have the helicopter crash into my face. Next thing you know it would get recalled and I would have ruined the fun for everyone.

  5. Sascha says:

I’m done picking games, just going with who I want to win from here on out.

As a Bucs fan, I hate Carolina, but I’m rooting for them in the NFC right now, so Panthers win.

As a Lions I hate the Packers. A lot of Lions fans are pissed at the Cowboys “paying off” the refs, but I feel that the NFL has a thing against the Lions, not the Cowboys fault. So, go Dallas.

I don’t believe the Pats are as good a team as they’ve seemed lately, I also don’t think the Ravens are, but the display against Pitt was impressive. Who cares about this game? I’ll take Pats, I guess.

The Colts and Broncos. Manning the Colt always manhandled the Broncos in the playoffs, and he’ll now return the favor, with at least 3 TD’s. Broncos pull away, and Denver beats Carolina in the Super Bowl.

  6. Hydi says:

Is that the Safeway located at 5545 Connecticut Avenue?

  7. TeaParty1776 says:

Those chips recently stopped being sold in New Bedford, MA. As an expert booze snack muncher, I protest! They are the best booze snack, better than wheat crackers and extra sharp chedder cheese or hot salsa sauce and torritos or horseradish and bacon dip and wheat crackers. Stacy’s Cinnamon chips continue to sell. Booze and cinnamon?! Ick! Even cinnamon alone I wouldnt eat. The market moveth in mysterious ways.
