Review: Doctor Dread’s Jerk Kettle Cooked Potato Chips & Backup QB vs. JFG: NFL Week 8 & YOU’RE KILLING ME PEYTON

Junk Food Nation, let me describe to you what fantasy football does to my life.  I have been doing well this season because my fantasy team is loaded with Demaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas, and Ronnie Hillman. My opponent this week had Emmanuel Sanders.  And OF COURSE, Peyton Manning tosses not one, not two, but THREE TDs to Sanders last night, zippy for my guys.  ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? STOP GIVING THE BALL TO JUWAN THOMPSON ON THE GOAL LINE. I tossed and turned all night. Anyone else have fantasy anguish like this?  Tell me your examples in the comments below.

Back to real life football: here’s the tally so far regarding the season long bet between me and the BackUp QB:

Backup QB Picks JFG Picks
WEEK 7 8-6-0 (8 pts) 10-4-0 (10 pts)
SEASON 46-49-4 (50 pts) 46-49-4 (58 pts)

I bounced back nicely from my brutal Week 6 where I got only TWO PICKS right. Lawdy. Anyways, both the BQB and I got our LOCKS wrong, but we’ve reached a point in the season where our records are exactly identical, pick-wise: 46-49-4.  I only have eight more points than him because I’ve gotten two more LOCK picks correct.

Let’s move to Week 8, where the BQB’s lock is Packers -1.5: “Yes, Mark Ingram returns for New Orleans, and yes, they’re historically very good at home.  But advanced metrics only rate them as the 21st best team in the league, while they have Green Bay 3rd.  On a neutral site, is Green Bay really only a 1.5 point favorite?  With the 3 point home team juice, that’s what this line is saying, and I think it’s wrong.  Take the Packers.” Check out the rest of the BQB’s picks here.

My LOCK OF THE CENTURY…OF THE WEEK… is the Eagles +2.5 over the Cardinals.  Yeah, it’s on the road. Yeah, the Eagles had to travel. Yes, the Cardinals are in first place and have Carson Palmer back. So what? Eagles coming off a Bye Week, with (hopefully) a healthier front line? Mark it down, son.

The rest of our picks here:

Doctor Dread’s Jerk Kettle Cooked Potato Chips: The Money Shot

Doctor Dread’s Jerk Kettle Cooked Potato Chips were given to me by Doctor Sis, who knows the creator since they are actually a Maryland-based brand.  Doctor Dread’s also makes jerk flavored peanuts and meat rubs.

Doctor Dread’s Jerk Kettle Cooked Potato Chips: His life story!

I can’t say I’ve ever been a HUGE fan of jerk chicken, for example,  but I certainly enjoy it – I never go out of my way to seek it out, is all. The unique spices in jerk spice are distinct and typically relies on the combo of peppers and all spice.  These spices SHOULD taste good on chips…but we’ll see.

Doctor Dread’s Jerk Kettle Cooked Potato Chips: simple ingredients

The one thing I immediately appreciate about these chips – only a few ingredients, not loaded with preservatives.  There’s a video of how they made these chips here!

Doctor Dread’s Jerk Kettle Cooked Potato Chips: Perfect look

When I opened up these Doctor Dread’s Jerk Kettle Cooked Potato Chips, I could definitely smell the jerk seasoning.  It wasn’t overpowering, but it was distinct – it mainly smelled like all spice to me. The chips themselves were nice and thick, while slightly oily – just how a perfect kettle chip should be.

Doctor Dread’s Jerk Kettle Cooked Potato Chips: Great crunch

I popped a few Doctor Dread’s Jerk Kettle Cooked Potato Chips into my mouth, and immediately knew these were good. Now look, like I said before, I’m not the hugest fan of jerk spice in the world.  That said, these chips were pretty perfectly executed and the jerk spice was just right.

Jerk spice, on chicken, other meats, whatever, should never overpowering the item its on.  It should highlight the base with its unique combo of peppers.  And that’s what the spice did here – the underlying kettle chips were just good, semi-thick cut kettle potato chips, perfectly cooked, not too greasy, with lots of nice crunchy folds.  They tasted as they should – full of potato flavor.

The jerk spice sat on top of this potato flavor perfectly, giving off just the right amount of jerk flavor while still maintaining the flavor of the potato.  Key word: balance.  If you’re someone that LOVES powerful jerk spice, these will leave you a bit short.  But for me, these were well balanced and just right.

Have a good weekend, Junk Food Nation!
