Recent Chips I Have Not Purchased (Herr’s, Ruffles) & Internet Explosion: The Drake Lint Roll

Junk Food Nation, I’m going to lead off with a sports/entertainment story that some of you know about, but many probably don’t. During the Brooklyn Nets – Toronto Raptors Game 2 on Tuesday night, Canadian pop star Drake was spotted on the sidelines taking care of business.  And by taking care of business, I mean grooming himself.  And by grooming himself, I mean….well, you just take a look:

Didn’t spot it?  Maybe this is a little clearer:

Or even bigger:

Yep, that’s him, on the sideline of a basketball game, lint rolling himself energetically.  That. Is. Awesome.

Now, I agree – this isn’t news.  But just because it isn’t news doesn’t mean it’s not funny.  Plus, it has spawned some hilarious GIFs (click here).  Now, to his credit, Drake embraced it, poking fun at himself, but still.  WHO LINT ROLLS AT A SPORTING EVENT!?

Let’s be clear – it has nothing to do with lint rolling.  Hell, I have one in my desk for my pants/jacket before I head to court. You can’t/shouldn’t show up to places like you just rolled around in a bag of cat fur.  BUT DO THAT SH*T AT HOME.

I mean, a sports stadium is one of the dirtiest places on the planet.  I remember being at a football stadium where the line was so long for the urinals in the men’s bathroom, people were USING THE SINKS.  Yeah. That happened.

And the seats IN an arena? I know the ushers wipe them off, but let’s just say with all the beer spillage, hot dog fingers, and general thousands-of-people-exhaling-and-sweating-in-one-place, I’m not convinced those chairs aren’t an enlarged petri dish you can sit in.  And all of this is to say THE EXTRA LINT FUZZIES ON YOUR PANTS ARE THE LEAST OF YOUR CONCERNS.

But hey, it’s Drake.

Moving on. Today I just wanted to do a quick mention of some things I will NOT be reviewing, even though I’ve seen them on shelves:

NO-herrs-01

At my local Harris Teeter, Doctor Sis tipped me off to this HUGE display of Herr’s varied-flavored cheese curls. I mean, there are SO MANY here.  Plus, buy one get one free?  That’s a deal!

NO-herrs-02

However, when I got there, and looked closer, I wasn’t as excited. This is the second of two displays I saw, btw.

NO-herrs-03

I reviewed these Buffalo Blue Cheese Curls over two years ago – one of my first month of reviews!  Looking back, my reviews were very different back then.  But yeah – already done, so movin’ on…

NO-herrs-04

Same with these Jalapeno Popper Cheese Curls.  A favorite of my friend Arish’s, these were DAMN GOOD.  But I had already reviewed these too. Movin’ on…

NO-herrs-05

Nacho Cheese Cheese Curls, Herr’s?  Isn’t this the flavor of cheese curls to begin with??  Lame.

NO-herrs-06

The only flavor I WAS curious about were these Deep Dish Pizza Cheese Curls. My friend Arish liked them, and Doctor Sis said they were ok.  I dunno…I’m worried about a let down, and also these came out in 2012 so there are already some reviews for them out on the interwebs.  Have YOU tried these?  Tell me what you think in the comments below.  Maybe I’ll grab these…some day.

The Nosh Show guys and I discussed these new DEEP RIDGED Ruffles on our 25th episode.  The question was: how are these different than the Ruffles Ultimate that came out last year? Answer: I’m not sure they are. Or, better answer: Nothing.

I mean how are these Deep Ridged Bacon & Cheddar Ruffles different than the Loaded Bacon & Cheddar Potato Skins Ruffles Ultimate from this summer?  It ain’t.

NO-herrs-08

The cross branding with Buffalo Wild Wings is interesting though.  But…after eating SO MANY buffalo wing flavored snacks on this blog, these didn’t piqued my interest. Maybe I’m getting soft.  Nope, that’s just my belly.

If you, out there in Junk Food Nation, have tried any of these – let me know how they are in the comments below.  Or if you want to talk about lint rolling, I’m down for that too.  Happy Thursday!  The weekend is almost here…

Thoughts? Please comment below or hit me up on Twitter @junkfoodguy or LIKE my Facebook Page and message me there. I also have Google+!! Let’s hang out.

Wait, you’re not supposed to use the sink? 🙂

I have tried the Deep Dish Pizza curls a year or two ago, because I love deep dish pizza, and they were… interesting. Worth a try, but not something I’d buy again. They actually seemed overly sweet to me. Plus I’m used to crunchy rarther than puffed curls, so maybe the texture was a little off-putting. If they made them in crunchy I’d try ’em again.

And the Blackhawks are goons! And did you see the chick flashing her boobs during game 2 to lead the Blues to the OT win? (not necessarily the chick I’d choose to flash her boobs, but it was fun to see on national TV.)

@Mike N: LOL, I did see that chick via internet explosion.

CHI vs STL – 2-2 series. Damn.

Glad to know your opinion of the deep dish curls, btw. Yeah, something about “pizza flavoring” always turns me off. I dunno – the overly sweet tomato powder seems like it would annoy me too.

My general view is:fake pizza or bacon flavor products is to be avoided. It’s just never close. Stick to the real thing.
Re Herr’s Buffalo Blue Cheese review:I wouldn’t call those curls but poofs. Is there a definitive definition, tho? Love Cheetos, find Utz bland & oily tasting.

    • junkfoodguy says:

@MP: Hmmmm interesting. Puff vs Curl vs Poof. I tend to think of cheese puffs as the denser crunchier corn snacks, and curls as these airy half circle things.

    • MP says:

@JFG – I’ve always associated curls with being crunchy, and poofs/puffs being the light airy things. Even though curls are more straight like sticks & the poofs/puffs actually curl :S
Then there was my old favorites of Cheetos Paws / Checkers / Xs&Os that were like poofs/puffs: more dense but still not “crunchy”. Hmmm.

    • junkfoodguy says:

      @MP: PAWS! Forgot about those

I believe Wal-Mart in my town has set up a display of Herr’s “summer theme” chip flavors. It’s near that time of year again!

There are two Buffalo Wild Wings restaurants around where I live. Never been though since they’re a bit of a drive.

as an experienced eater of cheese puffs, i can say that the nacho cheese ones are by far the best. don’t judge a book by it’s cover.

    Who’s ‘Drake’?

  7. Isaac says:

These ruffles are delicious, taste just like a hotwing, with a hint of blue cheese dressing in there aswell. Flavored perfectly (not too strong or spicy) And with a bit of vinegar flavor aswell.
    5/5 on my chip scale,
