Review: Market Pantry Chocolate Mint Creme Sandwich Cookies & Dinner Porn. DINNER PORN. DINNER PORN!!!!!

Junk Food Nation, let’s not talk about some things.  Let’s not talk about how I didn’t win Mega Millions last night. Let’s not talk about how, because the Junk food Gal was not around to reign in my eating habits, I literally had cookies and chips for dinner last night. Let’s not talk about how my waist line feels like a pair of handcuffs around some really chubby wrists…. likely, MY wrists.  Instead, let’s talk about PORN.  No, not that kind of porn.  DINNER PORN.  And NO, not that kind of porn either. Man, you really are sick.

No, the kind of dinner porn I’m referring to is a new South Korean trend where people can log in a watch someone else…EAT.  And that’s IT. (*Thanks to the Foodette for tipping me off to this story)  Apparently, it’s basically people broadcasting their meals that they eat to thousands of viewers a night.  Seriously.  According to this article, it’s REALLY popular in South Korea.  Quote:

“One known as the Diva eats for approximately two hours each night, streaming her meal to thousands of viewers and consuming a huge amount of food, like 30 fried eggs, plus crab legs, or two medium pizzas. She estimates she spends between $3,000 and $6,000 a month on food, and that she’s gained 20 pounds since she started…”

WOW.  I mean, I can only assume she’s EARNING more than 3K-6K a month, right? Otherwise, this is a very pricey, and VERY STUPID, hobby.  I mean, is the juice worth the squeeze?  And of course I’m referring to the juice of a pineapple squeezed over an entire pork belly.

I can’t imagine anyone in the US would pay to watch someone else eat, but hey, that’s why it’s called “porn” isn’t it? I mean, would YOU pay to watch ME eat junk food?  Don’t give me any ideas. <checking to see if http://www.youwatchmeeatjunkfood.com is taken…>

Market Pantry Chocolate Mint Creme Sandwich Cookies: The Money Shot

A commenter told me about Market Pantry Chocolate Mint Creme Sandwich Cookies after I reviewed Target’s Pumpkin Cheesecake Creme Sandwich Cookies.  I had such a good experience with the Candy Cane Oreos, that I knew I HAD to try these.  After all, you can never have enough cookies around the holidays, right?  These may or may not be what I ate for dinner last night.  Shush.

Looking at this list of ingredients on the Market Pantry Chocolate Mint Creme Sandwich Cookies box…yeah these aren’t the healthiest bunch of cookies.  But when has that stopped me?  I was happy to see that the ingredients did list “candy cane pieces.” I want that candy crunch!

Market Pantry Chocolate Mint Creme Sandwich Cookies: Like really rough Oreos

When I opened up this box of Market Pantry Chocolate Mint Creme Sandwich Cookies, I could smell ….well, it basically smelled like Oreos.  A SLIGHT hint of mint…very muted though (like when you’re trying to smell Thin Mints through the cellophane.  What you don’t do that?)

Market Pantry Chocolate Mint Creme Sandwich Cookies: ROUGH

Market Pantry Chocolate Mint Creme Sandwich Cookies didn’t have the same nicely formed cookies as Oreos do.  And they were much harder and crumblier too.  When I tried to “unsnap” the cookie to get to the creme inside, I basically shattered the first one in my hand.  These were NOT easy to take apart.  Weird.

Market Pantry Chocolate Mint Creme Sandwich Cookies: Tough creme

Once I WAS able to twist open one of these Market Pantry Chocolate Mint Creme Sandwich Cookies, I could finally see the creme inside.  White, with little red pieces – I DID like the look of these more than the Candy Cane Oreos (no red creme, please).  The creme by itself was WONDERFUL – sweet and had a flavor of vanilla and mint.  It DEFINITELY had a plentiful candy crunch, which I liked.

The cookie by itself had a slight dark cocoa flavor, and that was about it.  Unmemorable.  Not sure if I loved the cookie on this – very crunchy, much crunchier than an Oreo cookie.

Market Pantry Chocolate Mint Creme Sandwich Cookies: Crumbly

Creme and cookie eaten together?  Well, these Market Pantry Chocolate Mint Creme Sandwich Cookies were pretty good.  My ruling: I didn’t lke these as much as the Candy Cane Oreos, but they were still tasty.

Together, the mint creme and crunchy cookie came together to give a nice chocolate mint flavor.  The texture of the overall sandwich cookie was VERY crunchy, and I think that’s what sort of threw me a bit.  The cookie on this was so crunchy that even though I could feel the candy pieces, they sort of got lost or mixed in with the crunch of the cookie.

Flavor-wise, the muted cocoa flavor of this cookie kind of brought the overall sweetness down.  So while this was a chocolate mint cookie, it did not taste like the Candy Cane Oreos or a Thin Mint.  It’s sort of a shame – I think the creme in this cookie was way better than the Candy Cane Oreo creme, but I think the cookie was not as good.  If I could take the creme from this cookie and combine it with an Oreo cookie – MAGIC.

Tasty? Sure.  Would I eat it again? No reason not to.  But I would prob opt to buy the Candy Cane Oreos first.

I’m trying to think about how I’d allocate six grand a month on food, aside from obviously lavish dinners, and I am coming up blank. It seems to be an either/or situation- like, either two or three damned fine tasting menus, or an apartment-sized barricade of Costco-sized jars of peanut butter. Woof.

People will watch any type of “reality” show that, in particular, makes them feel better about themselves. Quite disgusting if you ask me.

Those cookies remind me of the whoopie pies (available in chocolate and red velvet) at Crumbs. The pies are pretty big like their cupcakes so don’t eat in one sitting.
