Review: Market Pantry Pumpkin Cheesecake Creme Sandwich Cookies (Limited Time Only @ Target) & Candy Corn Oreos, Yahoo Finance Article

Happy Friday the 13th, Junk Food Nation.  It’s been a crazy week, and I’m glad Friday is finally here.  This weekend promises to be fun – here in DC the weather has finally cooled after a frickin’ monsoon last night (seriously, it was like the rain was trying to COME IN). The Mayweather fight is tomorrow night (over/under on how many dolts mutter aloud UFC IS SO MUCH BETTER while crushing Natty Ice?)  And of course, a whole slate of college football and NFL games.  Anyone else watch that sh*tshow that was last night’s Pats-Jets game?  Ugh, I’ve seen microwave meals that were more exciting.  But I digress…

1) For those of you who have been asking me if I’m going to review the Candy Corn Oreos, I say: I’VE REVIEWED THEM!

Actually, my friend Jen reviewed them for me a year ago…check her review out here.  Best lines, by far: “The yellow is actually way sweeter than the orange; however, it’s painfully clear that this shit ain’t of this Earth. Not to get all metaphysical on you all, but this tastes like you are eating the color yellow.”

2) MORE JUNKFOODGUY.COM IN THE MEDIA!  This time, I made into a Yahoo Finance article – READ IT HERE 🙂  So stoked – I’m like a proud papa – GO READ IT GO READ IT GO READ IT.

Today’s junk food: Market Pantry Pumpkin Cheesecake Creme Sandwich Cookies!

Market Pantry Pumpkin Cheesecake Creme Sandwich Cookies: The Money Shot

You know, I normally avoid Target’s Market Pantry line.  I don’t know why.  I just do – I think it’s because I’m so used to buying Walmart’s Great Value line, that I always ignore Target’s brands.  But when I saw that these Market Pantry Pumpkin Cheesecake Creme Sandwich Cookies were LIMITED TIME ONLY, and since over on the Nosh Show we were pondering WHEN will Oreo come out with a Pumpkin Spice Oreo…well, I HAD to try these.

It is a little alarming that these Market Pantry Pumpkin Cheesecake Creme Sandwich Cookies show CANDY CORN PUMPKINS on its packaging.  These BETTER NOT TASTE LIKE CANDY CORN.

Market Pantry Pumpkin Cheesecake Creme Sandwich Cookies: Cheesecake FLAVORED filling?  Just make it out of cream cheese!

I do love pumpkin cheesecake, and have had a few items of pumpkin cheesecake flavor on this blog (here and here).   I mean, who DOESN’T love pumpkin cheesecake??  It’s pumpkin spice and a big glob of sugary cream cheese in your mouth! You eat and you like it!

Market Pantry Pumpkin Cheesecake Creme Sandwich Cookies: GINGER!

Market Pantry Pumpkin Cheesecake Creme Sandwich Cookies include some great ingredients, including ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and Pumpkin Powder.  I am encouraged.

Market Pantry Pumpkin Cheesecake Creme Sandwich Cookies: In the tray

Even with my stuffy nose, I could tell as I slid the tray of Market Pantry Pumpkin Cheesecake Creme Sandwich Cookies out from under the plastic that these smelled like …pumpkin cheesecake!  The dough already had this great sweet spiced smell, and there was that sweet twinge of cream cheese aroma as well.

Market Pantry Pumpkin Cheesecake Creme Sandwich Cookies: Stand alone

Eating the components of these Market Pantry Pumpkin Cheesecake Creme Sandwich Cookies separately, the cookie was nice and crunchy – more crunchy than your standard Oreo.  Crunchy like when you make butter cookies at home.  They had a GREAT pumpkin spice flavor, some almost gingerbread flavor, and basically tasted like an oatmeal-ish pumpkin spiced pie crust.  It was sweet yet still wholesome.

The creme by itself was your standard cream cheese icing, with some really interesting salty/sweet buttery notes.  There was something tangy in there, not unlike when you have cream cheese icing on carrot cake.  I really liked it.

Market Pantry Pumpkin Cheesecake Creme Sandwich Cookies: ONE BITE

Eaten together, these Market Pantry Pumpkin Cheesecake Creme Sandwich Cookies were pretty damn perfect, I must say.  It tasted like I was eating Pumpkin Cheesecake in a crunchier, cookie form!  The icing mixed with the cookie perfectly to represent the mouthful you’d get from a bite of cheesecake that was closer to the crust.

Would these have worked better with a softer cookie?  Maybe, but I liked the crunch.  A softer cookie might’ve fallen apart too easily; I appreciated that the cookie provided a nice contrast to the icing.

Overall, one of the better cookies I’ve had in a while.  Great pumpkin flavor, nice cream cheese icing, and good crunch.  A solid thumbs up – and for 2 bucks??  You NEED to buy these.

PURCHASED AT: Target

COST: $1.99

BOOOOOOO Eric! You got me all excited and Target DID NOT HAVE THEM! 😛

(To be fair, I was excited about getting them for Kate, who LOVES her some pumpkin spice; I’m kind of non-committal on the flavor. But still.)

I like how Yahoo! (still with the I?) just quotes your blog at length without, you know, doing its own research or, say, interviewing you. Which means you could put anything, ANYTHING, in your reviews now and people would just, uh, regurgitate it word-for-word (sorry for the word choice, I am a doctor, you know).

I read the Guest Blog, and is Jan a guy or girl? JFG is not clear…. What do you fellow commenters think?
Also, is there a way to become a official member on this site, or do I have to keep putting my name and email in every time I want to comment?

    • junkfoodguy says:

      @E of R: It’s Jen – as in Jennifer 🙂 So, girl.

OH…official commenter, huh? Ummmmm It’s already been established that I am NOT THAT tech savvy…..I’ll look into it!

  8. Ginger says:

Simply DUH-licious. These cookies absolutely blew my mind with how good they were. I said “were”, because I ate the entire pack this morning. I brought in a box with the good intentions of sharing them with the office but after I opened them and was hit by the incredible smell, I hoarded them in my office and ate one every 15 minutes until they were gone. While ashamed at my lack of control, I’m already planning to go back to Target tonight and stock up before they are all gone. How do people not know about these cookies?!?!?!? Yum-yum in my tum-tum.

    • junkfoodguy says:

@Ginger: WOOHOO – so glad you agree 🙂 They are pretty spectacular. How do people not know? DON’T TELL THEM AND BUY THEM ALL FOR YOURSELF!!!

  9. Krystal says:

Ooookay.. these are possibly the best/worst thing to ever happen to me. How is this cookie so much perfection?

  10. Mike S. says:

Just picked up a couple of boxes at my local Target, on a 50%-off special along with the leftover Halloween candy, bringing them to $1 a box–such a deal, and looking forward to them!

  11. Mike S. says:

Unfortunately, as others have noted, these cookies can go VERY quickly. There is that moment after 2, when you debate, can I really stop at this point?!? Definitely a 9-star store cookie!

  12. Ginger says:

Food Guy, have you seen Target’s Market Pantry Chocolate Mint cookies yet? I picked up a box over the weekend to test them out and they are a close tie to the Pumpkin ones. DAMN YOU TARGET AND YOUR DELICIOUS COOKIE MAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another steller cookie.

  13. Ginger says:

Not like a Thin Mint, but a delicious chocolate mint taste; same concept as the pumpkin ones though ie two deeelicious chocolate cookies with a minty cream center. The tasty, surprising part was that the chocolate cookie part tasted almost like how a brownie tastes when it’s undercooked, but in a crunchy form…and the mint creamy icing was so light tasting it just makes it a nice combo but better than a mint Oreo, which is what I thought it’d be. And of course those crazy Market Pantry folks also gave this one a lovely peppermint smell that filled my car and had me sniffing them like a dog. I can’t wait for you to try them… NOM NOM NOM

  14. Evan Reynolds says:

My daughter brought me a box of these- had a display at the Wheaton Target – they were going for .54 cents a box!!! So much deliciousness for that price ?? Stop he insanity 😉
