Review: Limited Edition Muddy Buddies Peppermint Bark Chex Mix & Most Annoying Christmas Songs

Junk Food Nation, right now it is Christmas song central, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  There’s a station here in DC whose sole job is to play Christmas music on loop.  And I say Christmas specifically, NOT including other types of holidays, simply because THAT IS WHERE THE MUSIC INDUSTRY HAS FLOCKED TO SATURATE OUR EARS.

Everyone has a Christmas album now.  Michael Buble. Josh Groban. One Direction. Blake Shelton.  I’m sure even the Nyan Cat has one. And these songs are played OVER AND OVER AND OVER.   And I’m not saying I hate all of it.  Sometimes, someone comes along and does a really beautiful rendition of a holiday classic, and it’s golden.  But most of the time, this sh*t has to stop.

So what is the most annoying Christmas song out there?

I have heard Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmas Time” not less than twenty times over the weekend.  I liked it at first.  Then I didn’t like it.  Then I wanted to smash the radio.  Siiiimply….haaaaving….a WOONNDERFUL STOPPPPPP…

I actually like this song, and the little girl’s rendition of this in Love Actually is killer.  But this song quickly became the Christmas pop song that every wannabe pop star, Youtuber, and local Karaoke bar regular HAD to sing around this time of year.  And there’s nothing more painful than seeing someone TRY to go for those high notes at the end…and failing.  All I want for Christmas is for you to STOP.  NOW.

Well, this song is simply a depression-fest.  If you’re alone on Christmas, that sucks enough, but to then have to listen to this song on loop about how much it SUCKS to be alone on Christmas????  Just pass me the White Chocolate Peppermint Pringles and leave me alone to wallow in my filth, thank you.

I shouldn’t make fun of this song, as it’s actually a very heartfelt song protesting the Vietnam War. I just never want to hear it because it, like the song above, is a complete buzzkill.  Being abroad in the military and not being with your family during the holidays is the pits.  This song just makes you want to cry more.  Ugh…not my favorite.  At all.

What song is one YOU turn off immediately when it comes on?  Tell me in the comments below.

Limited Edition Muddy Buddies Peppermint Bark Chex Mix: The Money Shot

I first saw photos of this Limited Edition Muddy Buddies Peppermint Bark Chex Mix over on the Impulsive Buy’s blog.  And when I saw it, I immediately thought, I MUST HAVE IT. After my near-orgasmic experience with regular Muddy Buddies Chex Mix, I couldn’t wait to try this.

Wait…is THAT what Peppermint Bark looks like?

Limited Edition Muddy Buddies Peppermint Bark Chex Mix looks like it’s based on a white chocolate base.    Or something.  Peppermint bark always has some kind of chocolate, right?  And what’s with the Japanese penguin cartoon on the front?

Thank God the Yellow Corn Meal is degermed

…and I’m starting to notice something: these don’t appear to be Muddy Buddies at all.  Muddy Buddies are usually peanut butter and chocolate, I thought.  At least the ones I’m used to.  These look like just pure white sugar confection and peppermint.  Which sounds good, I guess…but is this truly a Muddy Buddy?

Snow covered and red speckled

Limited Edition Muddy Buddies Peppermint Bark Chex Mix smelled a LOT like peppermint upon opening the bag.  Sweet, minty – there was no mistaking it.  Time to pour a mouthful in and chew…

Bits of peppermint?

Limited Edition Muddy Buddies Peppermint Bark Chex Mix tasted very straightforward – like Chex Mix that had been dredged in powdered sugar and then sprinkled with peppermint.  That’s it.

I don’t know what I expected.  Well, I expected there to be some chocolate taste, such that these Chex Mix pieces would be heavier and chocolatey and have a nice chocolate mint flavor.  If that had been the case, I’m be gulping these down.

But there was no chocolate, and this basically tasted like crunchy sugar with peppermint.  It didn’t taste bad, by any means – but it really didn’t blow me away. At all.

Meh.  I’m sure this satisfies someone’s sweet tooth, but not mine.

PURCHASED AT: Target (I’ve also seen it at Giant and Safeway Grocery)

COST: I’ve seen it anywhere from $2.50 – $3.50

Well I was intrigued by them until your review. I liked the original just as much as u. Thanks for the review, now I won’t bother trying them. I just tried the Indiana popcorn pepermint popcorn and I really liked it. It had the nice chocolate drizzle with a mild peppermint. I thought it was a good combo. Next up the peanutbutter ones!

I know 97.1 WASH FM started playing Christmas music before Thanksgiving.

Worse Christmas songs was a feature of WTOP’s “Talk Back Line” segement two Sat. mornings ago. “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” was nominated as a bad song!

I like Christmas music too and have found several online Christmas radio stations. Much better variety on them! Not to mention, I wait until AFTER Thanksgiving to start listening ot it.

I’ve been over saturated on Christmas music the majority of my life so all of the songs are equally terrible. Though Dominick the Donkey has to be one of the songs I have to change as soon as it plays.

haha no way you ate the entire bag

  5. My review of them is here: http://ephemeralnoms.blogspot.com/2012/12/chex-mix-muddy-buddies-peppermint-bark_20.html

I guess it comes in different colored bags?

Anyway, I too was unsure if it used white chocolate to make the powdered sugar stick. It was either that or hydrogenated veggie oil.
