Review: Pepperidge Farms Signatures Milk Chocolate Caramel Chocolate Medallion Cookies & Quick Poll: Junk Food Guy Merch?

Junk Food Nation, Happy Saturday!  Saturdays are great because I can get up, tweet a bunch, and then go right back to bed.  And then get up, scratch myself, saunter over to my computer, and write my blog. Saturdays are lazy for me…which is why you guys often don’t get a blog post until 1100am.  Sorry.

Today I just had a quick poll for you guys to take, if you could. Some people have talked to me about this, and I wanted to see if anyone out there would be interested in purchasing Junk Food Guy merchandise? I don’t know what, yet – T-shirts or something.  And of course, I realize that it would depend on the the design, etc… wouldn’t just be the logo I have above.  But is there any buzz out there?  Let me know by taking THIS POLL:

It’s TWO QUESTIONS, TOPS.  Take you three seconds.  Thanks a bunch!

Today’s junk food: Pepperidge Farms Signatures Milk Chocolate Caramel Chocolate Medallion Cookies!

A few days ago, I reviewed the Pepperidge Farms Signatures Toasted Coconut Truffle Cookies.  It all started when I was walking through Safeway and saw this display:

Intensely Delightful!

Winter Collection

Three flavors

The display, while eye catching, was sort of funny because while I’ve known snack food companies to release holiday products, I’ve never seen it referred to as “The Winter Collection.” What is this, Banana Republic?  It’s cookies, people.

Besides the Toasted Coconut variety, and the Milk Chocolate Caramel cookies I’m reviewing today, there was a third flavor:

Pepperidge Farms Signatures Dark Chocolate Chocolate Medallion Cookies

I decided not to buy these Pepperidge Farms Signatures Dark Chocolate Chocolate Medallion Cookies because, well, I didn’t want to.  I felt like I could predict the flavor, you know?  I’m sure these were delicious, but not enough to give me that “new product goosebump” feeling.

Pepperidge Farms Signatures Milk Chocolate Caramel Chocolate Medallion Cookies: The Money Shot

Of course, one might also argue that the flavor of these Pepperidge Farms Signatures Milk Chocolate Caramel Chocolate Medallion Cookies are also predictable, so why buy these? I bought these because caramel in cookies is so often done WRONG.  It’s too chewy, or hard as a rock, or barely there.  If these were going to be good, I wanted to see HOW good.

OOOOZzing

Pepperidge Farms Signatures Milk Chocolate Caramel Chocolate Medallion Cookies feature what appears to be a layer of cookie, and layer of milk chocolate, and some caramel in between.  Do you see the scripted Pepperidge Farm signature on the surface?  We’ll see if it really looks that good in person.

Hidden silk

Pepperidge Farms Signatures Milk Chocolate Caramel Chocolate Medallion Cookies apparently will give me waves of pleasure, building to the Signatures sensation.  Racy much, Pepperidge Farms?  I need to keep this box away from the Junk Food Gal.

Pour some glucose syrup on me

Pepperidge Farms Signatures Milk Chocolate Caramel Chocolate Medallion Cookies have some decent ingredients. Butter oil is my jam.

The signature!

A+ for precision, Pepperidge Farms!  The signature on these cookies looks perfect, and quite frankly, the swoopy lines going across the chocolate were crisp and clean.  These cookies definitely LOOKED good.

Leaf shaped

Each of these Pepperidge Farms Signatures Milk Chocolate Caramel Chocolate Medallion Cookies was about the size of 50-cent piece.  Do kids even know what those are anymore?  Anyways, each cookie was leaf shaped and well constructed, as seen above.  Clean lines, no breaking.  Solid cookie construction.

OOOOzing caramel

I popped on of these Pepperidge Farms Signatures Milk Chocolate Caramel Chocolate Medallion Cookies into my mouth, chewed, and, indeed, “delighted.”  These were really good.

First of all, the cookie on the bottom was sweet and buttery – super bad for you, but who cares?  This was the CLASSIC butter cookie.  Crumbled nicely, and provided just enough crunch.

The chocolate on top was sweet and smooth.  Didn’t taste like cheap chocolate, or even like chocolate filled with oils.  It tasted very high quality to me.

The caramel was done RIGHT.  Soft and oozing from the center of the chocolate… After I bit into it, I realized that it wasn’t caramel sandwiched in between the bookie and the chocolate, it was caramel INSIDE the chocolate.  It was as if Pepperidge Farms took a Caramello or Rolo, shrunk it down, and then stuck it to the cookie.  The result?  It helped keep the chocolate from crumbling, and prevented the caramel from oozing out from the edges of the cookie.

So, construction of cookie: A+.  And the taste, all together?  REALLY good.  Like yesterday’s snack, this was just a cookie DONE RIGHT.  Great chocolate, great caramel flavor, buttery cookie, good crunch, no mess.

An awesome cookie through and through.  BUY. NOW.

A YES to Junk Food Guy merchandise!…But only if you promise to deliver to the UK!

I also suggested bag clips. I can think of no more appropriate product for JFG’s logo to adorn.

    “Chip Clips”?

    Riiiight.

I think you should make Cheeto-orange glove fingers, sort of like fingerless gloves but the opposite. For surreptitious snacking without the incriminating evidence that barehand snacking leaves or the lack of dexterity that comes with full gloves.

  7. Kel McClanahan says:

Well that too. But I was actually proposing just the FINGERS. Make them out of something light but easily rinseable. Then you can slip on anywhere between two (if you delicately pluck your cheesy snacks out one at a time) to five (if you just dive in), and not get hot and sweaty palms.

Although now that I think of it, it might be a good idea to make it a full glove, but make the “hand” part light and breathable, like a biker’s glove, and just the fingers non-porous. I think “snacking gloves” could become a great gag gift.
