Review: Limited Edition Cap’n Crunch Christmas Crunch (a very short review) & David Stern is a CRAZY DICTATOR

Junk Food Nation, yesterday David Stern fined the San Antonio Spurs $250,000 for sending their four stars home for rest and not playing them on the road versus the Miami Heat.  David Stern is pissed that the Spurs didn’t put their best foot forward in the only matchup between the Heat and Spurs this season …and so he’s fining the team.  David Stern is implying that he’s looking out for the fans and wants the best product possible on the floor.  And David Stern can do this, of course, because there’s a rule that says you HAVE to play your best players at least 35 minutes each game….

…oh wait, that rule doesn’t exist?  I just made that up?  Wait, David Stern is a complete dictator and assigns fines arbitrarily?  Is that what is happening here?

Look, there’s plenty of articles out there about why this situation in the NBA is complete and utter bullshit, including this Deadspin article.  And for all the hemming and hawing about the Spurs diminishing the product of the game, let’s not overlook the fact that the Spurs backups almost beat the Miami Heat.  But for me, an attorney who works on labor and management issues every day, I am very aware of one simple fact: you can’t enforce a rule that doesn’t exist.  If Stern isn’t happy about the way that the Spurs managed the player situation, then you need to make a rule regarding that.  THEN you can enforce it (even if I still think conceptually its absurd).

But until then, THE LEAGUE CANNOT TELL TEAMS HOW TO RUN THEMSELVES.  What if the NBA rigged it so the Wizards get next year’s number one pick, and the Wiz decide NOT to take the player who is a consensus top prospect pick? You gonna fine them for that? Or what if the Lakers decide to play keep away and defense, and there are no points scored on either side for the last eight minutes of a game.  You gonna fine them for that?

In a league where teams tank on purpose and where players rest down the stretch for the playoffs ALL THE TIME, it’s RIDICULOUS that Stern enforces some imaginary rule arbitrarily NOW, just because he didn’t like it.  What a disgrace.  This kind of crap gets you fired and then sued in real life. Of course, the NBA isn’t real life, now, is it?

Today’s junk food: Limited Edition Cap’n Crunch Christmas Crunch!

Limited Edition Cap’n Crunch Christmas Crunch: The Money Shot

It’s December 1, so I figured I’d lead off the month with a little holiday cheer!  So, presenting….Limited Edition Cap’n Crunch Christmas Crunch!  Except it’s not really new, since it’s been reviewed before back in 2008 and 2010.  But, after spotting it on The Impulsive Buy, I wanted to give it a shot… plus, I hadn’t had a Cap’n Crunch cereal in forever, so why not?

Limited Edition Cap’n Crunch Christmas Crunch: Fun holiday shapes like green trees! Red hats!  Green …snowmen? Red stars?? This cereal is going off the rails.

Limited Edition Cap’n Crunch Christmas Crunch: yeah make those gingerbread houses with the blood red snowmen outside.  YIKES.

Limited Edition Cap’n Crunch Christmas Crunch: NOT part of a nutritious breakfast

Limited Edition Cap’n Crunch Christmas Crunch: How many types of sugar can you name?

Limited Edition Cap’n Crunch Christmas Crunch: Hmmmm…..looks like Cap’n Crunch with Crunchberries cereal.

Limited Edition Cap’n Crunch Christmas Crunch: And….TASTES like Cap’n Crunch with Crunchberries cereal.

Ok, this review of Limited Edition Cap’n Crunch Christmas Crunch cereal is gonna be really short, because the answer is this tastes exactly like CAP’N CRUNCH CRUNCHBERRIES CEREAL. Just a sugary cereal where the colored pieces have a litte bit of sgary fruity flavor.

Man, I was duped.  But I don’t know why I thought this would taste like something else fantastic.  The Junk Food Gal tried it, and exclaimed, “THIS DOESN’T TASTE LIKE CHRISTMAS!”  I am the victim of pretty packaging leading me to buy a product that is no different than its year-round counterpart.

Head, hanging in disgust.

PURCHASED AT: Super Walmart

COST: $2.38

I totally agree with everything you said. There’s pretty much nothing else I can say about Stern or the situation itself that hasn’t already been said, but yeah, this is just another illustration of how unreal the world the NBA operates in is.

I’ve never been much of a fan of crunchberries for some reason. When I get Cap’n Crunch I usually go with the classic or peanut butter versions. While this Christmas variety does seem more appealing than normal crunchberries (don’t know why, different colors and shapes I guess), it still doesn’t seem like something I’d want to get.

We already spoke about my feelings on the situation so I’ll just talk about the cereal. I really can’t stand companies rebrand a product for the holidays. If you’re goig to do something make it different from your normal fare. I want some limited edition pumpkin pie cereal. Heck cookie crisp could remove their chocolate chips, cover the pieces with sugar granules and call them sugar cookie crisp and I’d be happy with that. Just changing colors and shapes is not cutting it in my book.

This made me smile…I still get suckered by Count Chocula every year, but I’m not sure it has anything comparable. Maybe cocoa krispies with the marshmallows from lucky charms?! Thanks for reminding me not to get duped! 🙂

I would be happy trying this seeing we have Captain Crunch in Canada sans crunchberries. Last time I was in the States I picked up the “Oops! All Berries” both for the lack of crunchberries here and the name of the cereal itself!

The Christmas Crunch onl has the Strawberry flaovored crunchberries. In addition, you shouldn’t be so disappointed because Cruchberries are a great cereal anyway.
