Batten Down the Hatches! Sandy Is Coming! (& A Very QUICK “In Stores Now” & My Week 8 NFL Picks)

Junk Food Nation, the entire East Coast is swept up in Sandy-mania, the latest storm to hit the country.  Will it rip through DC with 85 MPH winds? Or will there just be a lot of rain, ruining EVERYTHING FUN EVER?  Either way, I’m off to the grocery store soon to try to buy some beef.  If you’re going be stuck inside because of a storm – might as well make stew!

So today’s post is gonna be quick – first, my NFL Picks.  Last week, I went 10-3 (BOOOO YA) (Do people still say boo-yah? I dunno.  Feeling old over here.)  This week, I’m taking Vikes (stupid Bucs getting my week off to a bad start!), Bears (Cam still stinks), Chargers (high scoring game alert), Lions (they have to win sometime, don’t they?), Jets (still not a believer in Miami), Eagles (ATL upset!), Skins (Pittsburgh letdown), Packers (Oh yeah, the Packers are good again), Colts (great win last week, another one comes), Raiders (Brady Quinn??? Please), Giants (BEAT DALLAS), Broncos (Peyton vs. Brees), and Niners (SF celebrating lots of wins lately). Oh yeah, and the Patriots (duh).

And now, a QUICK look around the grocery store:

Reaching the end of pumpkin spice

I love pumpkin spice, and I recently blogged about seeing Pumpkin Spice bagels…but now Pumpkin Spice English Muffins (at Safeway)?  Are these necessary? Is this for people who love Pumpkin Spice bagels but don’t want all the carbs that come with it?  Thomas’ ….you gotta come up with something else.

Roasted Garlic?

Western Ridge?

North End?

I’m actually interested in trying these Wheat Thins Toasted Chips BUT THEY ARE NEVER ON SALE.  And I’m not spending $10 on all three of these.  So I will continue to pass these in the aisle as they mock me with their weird (but likely predictable) flavors.

Plus, I’m curious about the naming matchups.  Little Italy…garlic.  Ok…I guess.  Western Ridge?  Of what…Texas? Some other frontier? Colorado? And are those areas known for Peppercorn Ranch?  And the North End of…Boston? Where Boston’s Little Italy is?  So Parmesan and Herb makes sense, but wasn’t that the point of the Roasted Garlic? Or are Boston’s and NYC’s Little Italy’s different?  These are the things that annoy me.

Anyways, I’m out – stay safe everyone in the storm’s path!  Or at least, stay dry.  See you all tomorrow!

U also stay safe, we are going to get crushed with 70 mph winds too.

  2. You know who must be really happy about this excessive pumpkin trend? The pumpkin farmers. I wonder if there’s a pumpkin lobby that constantly goes around to food brands with new suggestions. “Here’s a wild idea – pumpkin spice herb croutons to go with pumpkin spice salad dressing! Foodies will love it!”

    Stay safe!

Inclined to try the muffin but ritz chips looks bad.

Just thought I would say I love the pumpkin english muffins. They are just sweet enough that you can eat them plain, they are less dry because of the small pumpkin pieces. (I still add butter or honey to them)

I really miss the hard to find Honey Wheat English Muffins and these a great replacement, though for a limited time.
