The Final Easter Candy Review of the Season (aka Get This Stuff OUTTA MY HOUSE)

OK, Junk Food Nation, this really is it. I’ve got to get this Easter Candy out of my house. Just looking at it gives me a headache.  Blech.  Curse you, Walgreens for having amazing sales!  75% off??? VILE TEMPTRESS!

Walgreens Receipt

Do you see what happens when everything is 75% off? You buy a whole shitload of candy for under $2. This is my life now. Help!

Let’s just get through this day so I can return to normal junk food, snacks, and delecacies, shall we?  First up: Peeps Crispy Rice Marshmallow Treats!

Peeps Crispy Rice Marshmallow Treat: Tiny peeps on or in a Rice Krispies Treat?? How could this be bad??

Peeps Crispy Rice Marshmallow Treat: Why do they keep saying Peeps brand marshmallow candies? Peeps are just...Peeps. There are no variations...are there?

Peeps Crispy Rice Marshmallow Treat: Oh good lord. What is this monstrosity?

Peeps Crispy Rice Marshmallow Treat: So those are the candies, huh? Disappointing.

This was and tasted as expected – it was a big ole marshmallow-ey Rice Krispies treat, embedded with little colored sugary Peep-looking shapes.  The rice treat itself was REALLY disappointing – it lacked the buttery flavor and firmness that fresh made Rice Krispies treats have, and was just SWEET with corn syrup.  The little crunchy candies didn’t even taste like marshmallow, much less like Peeps.  Thumbs down.

Hershey's Cookies 'n' Creme Bunny: Can't decide if this is a scary bunny or a cute bunny. A little too happy.

Hershey's Cookies 'n' Creme Bunny: And this is apparently a bunny that has been sealed in cement like he's the victim of a mob hit in the late 1920's.

Hershey's Cookies 'n' Creme Bunny: Every millimeter of this white chocolate confection is filled with tiny cookie spheres.

Hershey's Cookies 'n' Creme Bunny: Soft and creamy

The Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme Bunny was pretty good – the white chocolate confection was extra sweet, and very creamy.  The little tiny spheres of Oreo-like candy were crunchy, but did get lost in the overwhelming flavor of the white chocolate.  If I had one critique, it would be that Hershey’s needed to include a little more salt.  let the not-sweet edginess of the cookie crumbles stand out a little more. This was super sweet, so kids will like it, but I’d probably pass in the future.

Lemonhead & Friends, White Hots Red Hots: I'm not really sure what the official name of this candy is. It's like a medley of flavors.

Lemonhead & Friends, White Hots Red Hots: Springtime image??? I shudder with anticipation.

Lemonhead & Friends, White Hots Red Hots: Well, that's anti-climatic. Why even HAVE the box? Just for show? Or do we just wanna kill the Earth that much faster?

Lemonhead & Friends, White Hots Red Hots: The singular Springtime image - a flower. Real outside the box, Lemonheads.

The Red Hots jelly beans were great – tasted like Hot Tamales, the cinnamon candy. Nice immediate heat to the spicy cinnamon, and not too sweet.  The White Hots were a different sort of hot – these almost tasted like Atomic Fireballs. Chewy Atomic Fireballs – there was more of a creamy candy taste at first before the cinnamon emerged.  Like this one too.

The Lemonheads? Well, they were Lemonheads – really artificially fruity yet satisfying jelly beans.  Tasted almost as good, or on par, with Starburst jelly beans which are my favorite jelly beans of all time.  Very fruity, very sweet, and just the right amount of sour.

And that’s it! I’m out! Easter candy – over!  And thank god.  I need to get back to some HEALTHIER junk food – like ice creams, chips, and cookies. Til Tomorrow…

It’s a shame that the Ferrera Pan Candy Company renamed all of its fruit candies [fruit]-heads. I miss Alexander the Grape, with his vaguely Greek helmet, and Johnny Apple Treats which was a Johnny Appleseed sowing little seeds of himself around. BTW, gross.

But what I really miss is the Cherry Chan, also known as the Cherry Clan. Racism is delicious. Cherryhead just doesn’t have the same ridiculous ring to it.

We actually got some post-holiday sale Hershey’s Cookies and Creme bunnies in my household. They are too sweet for the lady of the apartment, but I can’t get enough. Conclusion: I am basically a little kid who grew up to be 33 years old.
