Chileta Pina Lollipops & A Bar that Has More Girls than Dudes

Junk Food Nation, this morning I received a text from a friend who said she was taking some male colleagues from work out in DC, and they “specifically requested a place where there were more girls than dudes,” and did I know of such a place?  And I had to laugh…Yeah, it’s next to that casino where you always win, that bank that gives out free money, and that strip club where the strippers ask you to make out with them.

As soon as a bar EXISTS that has more girls than dudes, it naturally becomes a place with more dudes than girls.  It’s like Keyzer Soze, he’s there and then *poof* he’s gone!  Seriously though, what kind of request is that? I understand these guys don’t want to go out and party at a sausagefest, but what bar is actually able to say, “We consistently have too many girls than we know what to do with!” that isn’t crawling with dudes 15 minutes later.  Ladies Night at a bar is Dudes Night at a bar.

Am I crazy? I just thought the request from these guys was so laughable… it’s like a restaurant that gives out free food as long as its not crowded.  You can’t keep it a secret…as soon as the word gets out, the circumstance is gone. What do you guys think? Hit me in the comments below.

Todays junk food was purchased and given to me by my friend Marybeth when she visited Texas recently: Chileta Pina Lollipops!

The Money Shot

Chileta Pina Lollipops are made by El Azteca, a candy company whose slogan is “Sweet Little Mexico.”  Is this offensive?  Unsure. They make everything from tri-colored coconut Mexican flags to Plastic baby bottles full of bubblegum…. Er…is THAT offensive?  ….Still unsure.

Chili & Pineapple?

Chileta Pina Lollipops are lollipops that taste like pineapple and chilies, apparently.  Sweet and spicy in a candy? Sounds good to me…we’ll see how the execution is.

What's with the rabbit in the corner?

Ok, a few things:

1. Stereotypical HOT indication with the image of the lollipop with smoke coming out of his “ears.” This bag was apparently designed by Looney Tunes.

2. Does anyone else see the weird rabbit with sunglasses in the corner?? Not sure how that ties in.

3. Acidulated Hard Candy?  So…hard candy with acid added?  Can someone run these by the FDA real quick? Thanks.

TastyLICIOUS!

Chileta Pina Lollipops are advertised as TASTYLICIOUS!  I always approve of made up words.  Scoregasm.

Do not expose to sun??? What the

Chileta Pina Lollipops should not be exposed to the sun, or excessive humidity, because apparently these pops are made from Mogwais and vampires.

BTW, Tartrazine is yellow food coloring.  Yikes. I hope I am not susceptible.  Although that’s a fairly straightforward suggestion, isn’t it? Can’t ANYTHING cause allergy to susceptible people?

Individual pops

Chileta Pina Lollipops come individually wrapped, 10 per paackage.  Time to rip it open!

Embedded with chile flakes

So, I’ve been sucking on one of these Chileta Pina Lollipops for the past half hour, and I get NO chili flavor!  Sweet generic lollipop flavor, yes.  Citrus flavor? Sure.  Some salt-like savoriness too, sort of like how salted caramel uses salt to bring out the sweet?  Yes, that’s present as well.  But spice? NOPE.

After not having had a lollipop for probably over a decade, this was sort of a disappointment.  I expected my tongue to be tingling with sweet and spicy…this didn’t deliver.

    Dear JFG,

I stumbled upon your blog while searching for a picture of the Keebler Mint Creme Middles package to show to a friend (Because they have easily become my new favorite cookie and you HAVE to share that kind of stuff – right? I mean, let’s face it, they taste EXACTLY like a certain popular thin mint cookie that can only be purchased once a year by those little girls in green. And now I can buy the same thing almost anywhere. For half the price. And probably get twice as many…but I digress…)

I have easily spent the last hour, laughing, to the point of tears, at your keen observations about things like Chileta Pina Lollipops (“made from mogwais and vampires!”) and other junk food obsessions that I most likely will never try in this lifetime. Thanks for taking one for the team and publishing your taste test experiments here. I look forward to reading future junk food posts and awkwardness!

@Jenn: Glad you are enjoying my blog! The best thing you can do is spread the word 😉 And if you have any requests, let me know here, on Facebook or on Twitter. I love feedback, good or bad.

  3. How about a fast food place with low-calorie offerings? 😉

These lollipops look adorable! Not surprised they’re not spicy – there’s a cartoon on the package. Haven’t you tried those ultra-spicy lollipops with the scorpion inside? That will blow your head off…

If only there was some sort of social media app that could tell men which bars had the highest woman-to-man ratios…
