Junk Food Guy Seeking: Hotlix Scorpion Suckers

Junk Food Nation, I don’t like posting about things I’m seeking too often, and I generally try to avoid doing it more than twice in one week.  But I had to, HAD TO HAD TO post about this junk food that was emailed to me from my friend Mike: Hotlix Scorpion Suckers.

Holy hell, what are these????

The Mone*...HOLY CRAP WHAT IS THAT?

I know it’s Halloween time, so ’tis the season for gross outs and shocking snacks.  But when i saw these Hotlix Scorpion Suckers, my jaw dropped. And hung there. For a good minute.

Hotlix’s website proudly exclaims: “HOTLIX® is the original edible insect candy creator. For over 20 years HOTLIX® has been making people cringe with delight with their outrageous confections featuring real insects embeded inside the candy!”

GOOD. LORD.  This is a friggin’ BUG inside of candy.  That you EAT.

Sweet stinger

I mean, Jiminy Christmas – these Hotlix Scorpion Suckers presumably taste just like any other normal lollipop, and Hotlix sells them in a variety of flavors, from banana to strawberry. But what happens when you get down to the scorpion????

I’ve never eaten bugs before, though I’ve seen Andrew Zimmer do plenty of that on TV.  Whenever I saw Fear Factor or Survivor or Amazing Race and the challenge was to eat bugs, I always thought that if I was the contestant, I’d raise my hand and say, “Um, can I just go home now?  Yeah, I know I’m forfeiting. Can you just get me outta here???”

The thought of my tongue being even slightly tickled by scorpion feet makes me want to gag.  YEEEEEG. Someone buy me one of these (they ship from California) so I can try this scorpion-y goodness of these Hotlix suckers and face my fears.

What do you think…are these suckers horrifying or amazing?  Tell me in the comments below or hit me on Twitter @junkfoodguy or on my Facebook Page.

Sincerely, Junk Food Guy

You can get those in the Natural History Museum’s gift shop.

I always enjoy a taco with chapulines (grasshoppers) when I hit Oyamel.

Awful – though I thought you’d already tried these. The ones I’ve seen are super super spicy on top of being gross…

The scorpion doesn’t actually taste like anything. And the lollipop is very bland as well!

I too am eating one AS I TYPE! It is apple flavored and pretty dang good, actually. I’ve only just begun to uncover the scorpion and can confirm it tastes like nuts.
