Review: Popcorn, Indiana Sriracha Popcorn & Backup QB vs. JFG: NFL Week 4

Junk Food Nation, it’s a Football Friday!  So, I went to the Redskins-Giants game last night, and boy are my arms tired.  Yes, I know that’s not how the joke goes. It’s been that kind of morning. I didn’t get into my bed until…1:30am?  The Junk Food Gal saw the trail of discarded clothing that started from the front door that ended next to the bed and remarked, “Soooooo…you had a good night.”

Anyways, Week 4 of the NFL means it’s time for the Backup QB and I resume our season-long bet with our picks. Here’s the tally so far:

Week 3 results:
BQB 8-7-0, 8 pts
JFG 8-7-0, 12 pts (HIT MY LOCK, FINALLY).
Season so far:
BQB 17-26-2 (21 pts)
JFG 21-22-2 (25 pts)

BOOM.  Four points up!  Still, no lead is safe, and now we’re headed into the dreaded BYE week territory. For Week 4, the BQB’s lock is Eagles +5: “This is one where the spread just doesn’t make sense.  By any metric, Philly is the better team. They’re 3-0 (albeit against weak competition), San Fran is 1-2….the Eagles are somewhere between the 7th and 8th best team in the league by advanced metrics, while San Fran is somewhere between 12th and 18th by the same metrics.  The Eagles have played outstanding in clutch situations, while the Niners have wilted in the second half two weeks in a row.” Read the rest of the BQB’s picks here.

My LOCK OF THE CENTURY…OF THE WEEK… is the Lions -1.5 over the Jets. The Jets keep inventing new ways to lose.  This is what the DET defense will do to Geno Smith:

The rest of our picks here:

GAME Backup QB Picks JFG Picks

Eagles @ NINERS  Eagles +5 (LOCK)  NINERS -5
 Saints @ COWBOYS  COWBOYS +3 Saints -3
 Patriots @ CHIEFS  Patriots -3.5 Patriots -3.5

I still am not thrilled about taking a road game as my lock, but I’m slowly getting over that. Note: The Oakland-Miami game is being played in England.  Yuck.  I picked Miami only because they have to travel less.

Today’s junk food: Popcorn, Indiana Sriracha Popcorn!

Popcorn, Indiana Sriracha Popcorn: The Money Shot

Popcorn, Indiana! I’ve missed you!  Long ago, I used to review Popcorn, Indiana products all the time…and LOVED THEM…but it’s been a while, man.  It’s been a while. How you doin’?

Popcorn, Indiana Sriracha Popcorn

Popcorn, Indiana is ALWAYS quality, so when I saw this Sriracha Popcorn, I was definitely intrigued.  I’ve only had one other Sriracha Popcorn review on this blog before, and it was the J&D’s brand.  That one was good but super mild – it was like popcorn that hinted at Sriracha.  I wanted MORE sriracha flavor, like the Sriracha Pringles.  Those were tasty.

Popcorn, Indiana Sriracha Popcorn has ten ingredients, and I know what all of them are! YAAAY.

Popcorn, Indiana Sriracha Popcorn: Darkened with powder

When I opened this bag of Popcorn, Indiana Sriracha Popcorn and took a whiff, I sort of got a Sriracha-like smell. A little peppery, a little tangy.  Curled the nostrils a tiny bit; I could tell these were not going to mild right off the bat.  And I was glad for that.  I poured a big handful, shoved it into my mouth, and…

Popcorn, Indiana Sriracha Popcorn: encrusted with powder!

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM this Popcorn, Indiana Sriracha Popcorn was GOOOOOOOD. It’s weird – after my first bite, I thought “yes these definitely taste like Sriracha” but the more I ate it, the more I started to get other NON-Sriracha flavors too!  Actually sort of weird.

The flavor started out with lots of vinegar-y tang, lots of red pepper flavor, and plenty of garlicky-sweetness. Popcorn, Indiana went BOLD with the flavors here.  Still wasn’t as spicy as real Sriracha, but it had a good burn.

Oddly, however, as I started to eat more of this popcorn, I started to feel like there was a sort-of Thai fish sauce flavor going on.  For those of you who don’t know what fish sauce is, don’t be grossed out – I guarantee you’ve eaten it in Chinese food before.  It has a great savoriness, and I started to pick up notes of that fish sauce and maybe a little bit of Old Bay flavor too!  Now, this popcorn contains neither fish sauce nor Old Bay – but I was tasting it. I swear, I tasted it. And I LIKED IT.

I give this popcorn high marks – the flavor was nice and complex, and there was enough burn to make me happy.  So glad we caught up, Popcorn, Indiana.
